Railways increases coal transportation for power sector ahead of summer

Expecting a surge in demand for coal by power plants during the summer, the railways increased its coal transportation by 11.92 per cent in terms of tonnage by the end of February, the national transporter said in a statement on Thursday. It also said keeping in view the rising demand in the next few years, comprehensive planning of an energy corridor has been done with planned investment of Rs 1 lakh crore for over around 100 projects. Loading of rakes for the power sector from various sources in the current fiscal -- from April till February -- is 408 rakes a day against 344 rakes a day in last year, an increase of 64 rakes a day, the railways said. In February, 426.3 rakes a day have been loaded for power houses against 399 rakes a day in February last year, an increase of 27.3 rakes, it said. The Railways will run 491 trips of 196 special trains during Holi for the convenience of passengers and to ease the festive rush, the national transporter said on Monday. These special trains will connect major destinations across the country, they said. "In this ongoing festive season of Holi, for the convenience of rail travellers and to clear extra rush of passengers, Indian Railways is running 491 trips of 196 special trains. Indian Railways to launch Bharat Gaurav train to northeast on March 21

The Indian Railways is set to launch its first Bharat Gaurav train to the northeast on March 21 which will offer passengers a tour of the region, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on Saturday. The 15-day tour will cover Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya. "The much sought-after train tour 'North East Discovery: Beyond Guwahati' is ready to depart on March 21, 2023 from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on a 14 nights/15 days itinerary. "State-of-the-art Deluxe AC Tourist Train with AC I & AC II class will accommodate total 156 tourists," the statement said. Railways to start Vande Bharat train from Mumbai-Goa: Union minister Danve

A Vande Bharat semi-high speed express train will be operated on the Mumbai-Goa route soon, Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve has informed a delegation of legislators from Maharashtra. This information was shared by Niranjan Davkhare, a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council representing the Konkan graduates constituency. The delegation of legislators met Danve on Friday. During the meeting, the Union minister told the group that a Vande Bharat Express train will be operated between Mumbai and Goa, Davkhare said in a release. This express train will be operated between Mumbai and Goa on the lines of the ones introduced recently on Mumbai-Shirdi and Mumbai-Solapur routes to curtail travel time, Danve said. Plan to build 120 Vande Bharat trains moving fast: Rail panel member

The plan to make 200 advanced Vande Bharat trains, including a major portion in Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur in Maharashtra, has taken a decisive step with the lowest and second lowest bidders being chosen in a Rs 58000-crore tender, an official said on Friday. Rail Advisory Committee member Shamsundar Mandhana said 120 of these rakes, or a total of 1,920 coaches, will be made in Latur and the rest in Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. He said Latur Lok Sabha MP Sudhakar Shrangare was making efforts to ensure work on these state-of-the-art 16-coach rakes begin here as quickly as possible. Railways need not to seek permission to develop infra on its forest land

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has clarified that the railways does not need to seek permission to develop infrastructure on its land in forest areas, after its contradictory orders on the issue created confusion in many states. Quoting an order dated March 10 last year, the ministry has stated that the Forest (Conservation) Act will not be applicable on railway owned land for execution or maintaining of railway works. This paves the way for the national transporter to execute infrastructure projects even in sensitive forest areas without seeking permission from the Centre. "It has been brought to the notice of the ministry that in some states/UTs there is ambiguity regarding interpretation of the term "RoW", mentioned in the guidelines dated 10.03.2022. The Railways has decided to replicate the colourful and disable- friendly signages introduced at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station in Mumbai in more than 1200 railway stations notified to be modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, sources have said. They said this is a first-of-its-kind effort not only to re-invent them, but also to bring uniformity in its designs. The Central Railway installed new indicative board and signage facilities at CSMT to give an international look and feel to the iconic World Heritage Site station. These signages which are in varied colour schemes and big fonts can be seen from a distance. The station also has Braille signages at various points to help visually impaired persons find out information and location of various facilities.
