Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have concluded a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to form a joint venture aiming at a single point of contact for extending long-term product support services for India's defence forces. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhat, at Aero India 2023, the ongoing biennial air show and aviation exhibition, at Yelahanka Air Force Station here, a BEL statement said. The partnership is another significant step in cementing the relationship between the two companies that have a long history of association, it said. BEL, a 'Navratna' company which is a leading manufacturer of defence electronic products and systems, and IAI, a top aerospace and defence company in Israel, are engaged in several joint programmes for the Indian armed forces. The armies of India and Japan will kickstart a two-week mega military wargame from Friday in the Japanese province of Shiga to share best practices and develop interoperability. Indian Army officials said the exercise, 'Dharma Guardian', is "crucial and significant" in terms of security challenges faced by both nations in the backdrop of the current global situation. The fourth edition of the exercise will take place from February 17 to March 2 at Camp Imazu in Shiga province, they said. The case for the proposed procurement of a fleet of Predator drones from the US is under process, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar said on Saturday. The original proposal was to procure 30 MQ-9B Predator armed drones at a cost of over USD 3 billion to crank up India's surveillance apparatus along the frontier with China as well as in the Indian Ocean region.
