England recalls Alex Hales for T20 World Cup after 3-year absence

Alex Hales' three-year exile from international cricket ended Wednesday when he was selected by England as the replacement for the injured Jonny Bairstow in its squad for the Twenty20 World Cup. Hales, a big-hitting opening batter, was dropped ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup for what was described by the England and Wales Cricket Board as an off-field incident that led to a suspension. He reportedly twice tested positive for recreational drugs. That led to England's white-ball captain at the time, Eoin Morgan, delivering a scathing condemnation of Hales' behavior, saying he had shown a complete disregard for team values and couldn't be trusted. Hales' return signals a change in policy by England, which is now under the captaincy of Jos Buttler following the international retirement of Morgan this year. Bairstow, England's in-form batter across all formats, had to pull out of the World Cup squad after injuring his leg in what he described as a freak accident while playing golf l

Hardik Pandya rises to best-ever 5th spot on ICC T20I all-rounder rankings

India's flamboyant all-rounder Hardik Pandya has jumped eight places to a best-ever fifth position on the latest ICC T20I all-rounder rankings after his excellent outing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup here. Hardik claimed 3/25 and made 33 not out from just 17 balls, showing how vital his impact will be in India's T20 World Cup campaign later in the year in Australia. Elsewhere, Afghanistan's blistering start to the Asia Cup tournament has not gone unnoticed, with a number of players rewarded in the updated rankings. An ICC release said Rashid Khan's push for the No.1 bowler position has been helped with a two-spot jump to third (708 points), over fellow leg-spinners Adil Rashid and Adam Zampa. Left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi (716) is next in Rashid's sights, though Josh Hazlewood (792) boasts a strong margin at the top of the list. Rashid's compatriot Mujeeb Ur Rahman meanwhile has entered the top- 10 with a seven-spot move up the rankings (660), currently edged out for ei

Will Kohli continue playing shortest format for India post T20 World Cup?

Who will blink first? Will it be BCCI or will it be Virat Kohli? Kohli the T20 batter is playing from his memory but it is now quite evident that his methods are not working quite well enough for him in this short-duration-high impact game. Nor is it allowing the Indian team to make optimal use of its resources. The 20's or 35's are coming but not at a strike-rate of 150 (it was 102 plus against Pakistan on Sunday). So can Kohli be dropped from the T20 World Cup squad? Not even in your wildest of imagination even if he isn't scoring runs at a breakneck pace. But can Kohli continue playing for India in this format post the T20 World Cup in Australia? Well, even if the people, who are in decision making positions know the answer, they won't spell it out. That is a question that has been doing rounds of the corridors of Indian cricket since the 'Desert Debacle' last year when India made a pre-mature exit from the T20 World Cup . That was Kohli's last tournament as India's T20 captai

Australia will beat India in T20 World Cup final: Ponting

Defending champions Australia will beat India in the finals of the T20 World Cup to lift the trophy, predicted two-time World Cup winning skipper Ricky Ponting. The 47-year-old has picked India and Australia as the finalists at the showpiece. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in October and November later this year Down Under. "I think India and Australia will be the two playing in the final and I will just have to say that Australia will beat them in the final," Ponting said during the latest episode of The ICC Review. "The reigning champions have got home conditions and that was one thing that made Australia's win in the last World Cup, not remarkable but that little bit sweeter for them. "The fact that a lot of people, me included, thought when they went to UAE, the conditions that they were going to have to face on the back of the IPL, I thought the conditions might have been the thing that might not have allowed them to win it. But they found a way." England white-ba
