Sikkim yet to utilise untapped hydropower potential, says CM Tamang

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday said the Himalayan state till now has utilised only 27.5 per cent of its 8,000 MW power potential. He was speaking at the Business 20 (B20) conference organised as part of India's G20 presidency. " We have only utilised 2,200 MW till now and the scope for Hydropower, clean and green energy is ample in Sikkim, said the chief minister at the conference on Opportunities for multilateral business partnership in Tourism, Hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and organic farming. Urging the delegates to consider Sikkim as a good investment destination, Tamang said a total of 55 pharmaceutical companies from within the country are currently established in the state. NHPC pays interim dividend of Rs 997.75 crore to govt for 2022-23

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC has paid an interim dividend of Rs 997.75 crore to the government for 2022-23. "NHPC has paid an interim dividend of Rs 997.75 crore to government of India for the financial year 2022-23 on 2nd March 2023," a company statement said. The NHPC had already paid Rs 356.34 crore to the government during the current fiscal 2022-23 on account of final dividend for the financial year 2021-22. Thus, the NHPC has paid total dividend of Rs 1,354.09 crore to the government during the financial year 2022-23. NHPC today has more than eight lakh shareholders and total interim dividend pay-out for the financial year 2022-23 worked out to Rs 1,406.30 crore. NHPC had earned a net profit of Rs 3,264.32 crore for the nine months ended FY23 as against the previous period corresponding figure of Rs 2,977.62 crore. The company had earned a net profit of Rs 3,537.71 crore for the financial year 2021-22.

NHPC net profit declines 12.59% to Rs 776 crore for December quarter

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC has posted a 12.59 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 775.99 crore for the December 2022 quarter, mainly due to higher expenses. The consolidated net profit of the company was Rs 887.76 crore in the quarter ended December 2021, showed a BSE filing on Tuesday. Its total income rose to Rs 2,691.34 crore in the quarter from Rs 2,373.72 crore a year ago. Expenses increased to Rs 1,303.06 crore from Rs 1,259.28 crore in the year-ago period. The board of the company has also announced the interim dividend at the rate of 14 per cent (Rs 1.40 per equity share) on the face value of paid-up equity shares of Rs 10 each for the financial year 2022-23.

Centre approves Rs 2,614-cr investment for Sunni Dam hydro power project

The government on Wednesday approved Rs 2,614.51 crore investment for the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project by state-owned SJVN Ltd in Himachal Pradesh. "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the investment for 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh by SJVN Ltd, for an estimated cost of Rs 2,614.51 crore, including Rs 13.80 crore as budgetary support from Government of India for the cost of enabling infrastructure," an official statement said. Bhutan DGPC handed keys to Indian-backed 720 Mw Mangdechhu hydro project

The India-assisted 720 Megawatts Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project has been handed to Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) in Bhutan.The handover was held in Thimphu on December 27 in a ceremony that was witnessed by Bhutan's Minister of Economic Affairs Lyonpo Loknath Sharma and India's Ambassador to Bhutan, Sudhakar Dalela.With the handing over of the project, India and Bhutan have successfully completed four mega hydroelectric power projects, Bhutan's Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a statement.The 720 MW project Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project was jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering in 2019. Yamuna Kumar Chaubey gets charge of NHPC chairman and managing director

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC on Thursday said that its Director (Technical) Yamuna Kumar Chaubey has been given the charge of Chairman and Managing Director for three months beginning September 1. Abhay Kumar Singh ceased to be the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company with effect from August 31, 2022, upon attaining the age of superannuation, a BSE filing said. Further, it said that the power ministry in its letter dated August 31 conveyed the decision of the competent authority to assign the charge of CMD to Chaubey for a period of three months from September 1, 2022 or till a regular incumbent joins the post, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest. Chaubey, 59, is a graduate in Civil Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. NHPC to sell hydro power to PTC India from upcoming Nepal projects

State-run hydro power giant NHPC has inked a pact with PTC India to supply electricity to be generated from upcoming West Seti & Seti River-6 projects in Nepal, a statement said on Tuesday. The MoU was signed by NHPC CMD A.K. Singh and Dr. Rajib K. Mishra, CMD, PTC India Limited. As per the MoU, PTC shall purchase the Contracted Capacity from NHPC from date of commercial operation of the projects for onward sale to the state utilities/discoms/bulk consumers on long term basis in India and neighbouring countries. The PTC India shall also endeavour to sell any untied capacity on medium/short term basis or on power exchanges, it stated.

State-owned hydro power giant NHPC has inked a pact with the Himachal Pradesh government for the implementation of 500 MW Dugar Hydroelectric Project in Chamba district. "Implementation agreement for 500 MW Dugar Hydro Electric Project located in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, was signed between NHPC Limited and government of Himachal Pradesh on August 26, 2022 at Shimla," a statement said. State-owned hydro power giant NHPC has paid the final dividend of Rs 249.44 crore to the government for 2020-21. NHPC has paid a final dividend of Rs 249.44 Crore to the Government of India for 2020-21 on October 21, a power ministry statement said. According to the statement, NHPC CMD AK Singh handed the payment intimation advice to R K Singh, Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, here on October 26, 2021, in the presence of Power Secretary Alok Kumar. JSW Energy on Tuesday said that its arm JSW Hydro Energy has raised USD 707 million through green bonds abroad. "JSW Hydro Energy raises USD 707 million from international bond markets through debut Green Bond Issue under 144A / Reg S format," a JSW Energy statement said. According to statement, JSW Hydro Energy has priced the fixed rate senior secured green 144A/Reg S Bond for a 10-year tenor at 4.125 per cent. The proceeds from the issuance will be used towards repayment of existing green project-related rupee-denominated indebtedness, it said. The green bond framework for the company's debut bond transaction has been reviewed by Sustainalytics, who has issued a second party opinion. The company engaged with several investors on a global deal roadshow across Hong Kong, Singapore, London, New York and Los Angeles.
