Bharat Jodo Yatra witnesses all-women walk; Rahul meets Tikait in Haryana

The "Bharat Jodo Yatra" of the Congress party witnessed an all-women walk for a major stretch of its journey on Monday. The foot march entered Haryana's Kurukshetra district from Karnal on Sunday. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the yatra, met several farm union leaders, including Rakesh Tikait, at Kurukshetra and listened to their concerns. The march resumed from Khanpur Kolian here in the morning and reached Ambala in the evening where it halted for the night. Thousands of women participated in the yatra. 1.2 mn families in BPL category after Haryana revised income criteria: CM

Twelve lakh families have been added to the 'below poverty line' (BPL) category after Haryana government increased the annual income criteria for it, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Monday. Khattar also said that special camps would be organized at the district, block, and village levels to update the details of the families having the 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' (family ID card). He said that 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' (PPP) is the flagship scheme of the state government to ensure the reach of welfare schemes at the grassroot levels. The chief minister said that while taking care of the poor families, the state government had increased the annual income limit of BPL families from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh. As a result, the number of BPL families has increased to about 29 lakh now, he told reporters here. Cold wave sweeps Haryana and Punjab, Hisar reels at 1.4 degrees celsius

The ongoing cold wave sweeping Haryana and Punjab continued unabated, with minimum temperatures on Sunday hovering below normal limits at most places. While the minimum temperatures have been hovering below normal limits at most places for the past over a fortnight, the maximum temperatures too have dropped sharply for the past over a week. According to the MeT Department's weather report, dense fog was observed at most places in Haryana and Punjab on Sunday morning. Fog has enveloped several parts of both the states in recent days, reducing visibility in the morning hours. The Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra passed through Haryana's Karnal district Saturday with scores of people, including Olympic medallist boxer Vijender Singh and senior party leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Randeep Singh Surjewala, joining the Rahul Gandhi-led march. Anil Vij escapes unhurt as car meets with accident, second time in 3 weeks

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Saturday escaped unhurt after a truck hit his escort vehicle which then rammed into his car from behind on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, the second incident involving his official car in three weeks. The latest incident occurred near Bahadurgarh town, close to the same spot where his car broke down earlier on December 19. Haryana CM Khattar keeps Sports portfolio held by Minister Sandeep Singh

The Sports portfolio which was given up by Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh following allegations of sexual harassment against him by a woman coach, will now be held by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday allocated the portfolio of Sports and Youth Affairs to Khattar in addition to his existing portfolios with immediate effect, according to an official notification. Cold conditions continued to prevail in Haryana and Punjab, with minimum temperatures remaining below normal at many places on Friday. According to the Met department's weather report, Narnaul was the coldest place in Haryana, recording a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius. The Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed its journey from Sanoli-Panipat Road here on Friday morning on the first day of the Haryana leg's second phase. Over 11,000 offenders, bail jumpers arrested in 2022: Haryana Police

Haryana Police arrested over 11,000 proclaimed offenders and bail jumpers along with 334 wanted criminals in 2022. Director General of Police P K Agrawal said some of the arrested criminals were accused of heinous crimes like murder, attempt to murder, extortion, kidnapping, and theft and carried a reward ranging between Rs 5,000 and over Rs 1 lakh on their head. These arrests resulted in the resolution of hundreds of cases and prevented several crimes as well, the DGP said in an official statement. A drive against lawbreakers and criminal elements throughout the last year also led to the arrest of 6,552 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 4,911 bail jumpers. Out of these, 951 POs and 912 bail jumpers were apprehended by the State Crime Branch and the remaining were nabbed by the field units. Bharat Jodo Yatra resumes in UP, to enter Haryana in the evening

The Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed its journey around 6 am on Thursday after halting for the night at Ailum village here, with scores of people carrying the Tricolour marching through the hinterland, despite bitting cold. Bharat Jodo Yatra set to re-enter Haryana on Thursday: Congress

The Bharat Jodo Yatra will re-enter Haryana on Thursday evening and will pass through four districts of the state between January 5-10. According to a schedule released by the Congress, the yatra will enter Haryana through Sanauli Khurd village in Panipat district from Uttar Pradesh on January 5 evening where the participants will halt for the night. Bomb found near Punjab, Haryana chief ministers' official residences

A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot after a live bomb was found a few hundred metres away from the helipad used by Punjab and Haryana chief ministers here on Monday, police said. The shell was found in the fields on the Nayagaon-Kansal road, which is about one kilometre away from the helipad and about two kilometres from the official residences of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar, they said. An official of the disaster management department who reached the spot told reporters that the police control room received a message that a bomb-like object had been seen near the Kansal and Nayagaon T-point. "When we checked it and found that it was a live shell," he said, adding the area has been sealed. "It is a matter of investigation how this shell reached the spot," the official said.
