Internet services across 27 districts of Assam were suspended for over four hours on Sunday for the second time this month to prevent possible malpractices during a written examination for recruitment in various state government departments. After completion of the examination, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that fees of unsuccessful candidates will be sent to their bank accounts. The authorities decided to go ahead with their decision to suspend internet services during exam hours, after the Gauhati High Court refused to stay it following a writ petition against the order. Besides, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been clamped in all the 27 districts where the examinations were conducted, a senior official said. Mobile internet services in several districts of Assam will be suspended for four hours for the second time this month on Sunday for conducting free and fair written examination for grade III posts of various government departments. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC have also been clamped near the examination centres to further strengthen security measures. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reviewed the preparations. Mobile internet services had been suspended on August 21 in 25 districts of the state when the written examination for grade IV posts was held in two shifts of two hours each to ensure that candidates do not indulge in cheating through electronic devices. The final phase of this recruitment drive will be held for a limited number of posts of grade IV on September 11 and no suspension of mobile internet service on that day has been announced so far. As many as 85.63 per cent of the students have cleared the Karnataka SSLC (class 10) examinations, for which the results were announced on Thursday. A total of 8,53,436 students had appeared for the exams held from March 28 to April 11, while those who passed are 7,30,881. During 2019-20, the pass percentage was 72.42 per cent. "This is the highest pass percentage in the last 10 years," Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh told reporters here announcing the results. As has been the trend, girls fared better than boys with a 90.29 per cent pass percentage compared to 81.3 per cent for boys. A total of 145 students scored 625 out of 625, the Minister said. The government schools clocked a pass percentage of 88 per cent, while aided schools and unaided schools recorded 87.84 and 92.29 per cent respectively. While, urban pass percentage is 86.64 per cent and in rural it is 91.32 per cent.
The Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to hand over to the CBI a case of the leakage of question papers for the recruitment test of constables in the state police force. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, in a hurriedly called press conference at his official residence Oakover here, said the state government has decided to hand over the probe into the case to the CBI. The first reason for entrusting the task to the central investigative agency is to ensure a fair and impartial probe into the case, he said. The case was currently being investigated by a special investigating team of the state police which itself was conducting the written test for the recruitment of constables, he added.
