G-20 Summit: Delhi will be decorated with over 1 mn exotic potted plants

Over 10 lakh exotic potted plants will add to the beauty of the national capital as it gets ready to host the G20 Summit in September next year, forest department officials said on Wednesday. The horticulture wings of the central and Delhi government departments, including the Delhi Development Department, New Delhi Municipal Council, Public Works Department and Municipal Corporation of Delhi, have been asked to decorate public spaces, roundabouts, major intersections, flyovers and vertical greens in the city with exotic flowering plants, an official said. "Different species of exotic plants will be used for this purpose across Delhi. The locations and targets for each department will be finalised by April next year," the official said. Another official said special attention will be given to the stretch between the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Lutyens Delhi, India Gate area and Pragati Maidan, the main venue of the G20 Summit in Delhi. India's G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant on Tuesday pitched for the dissemination of data by the government in a granular form and said that sharing aggregated information is "not good". Addressing the G-20 development working group meeting here, Kant said data is a key aspect to help any country meet her developmental goals and added that India has benefitted from the same. Stressing on the importance of ensuring quality of data, the former civil servant who till recently worked as the chief executive of the government think-tank Niti Aayog made the reference to data aggregation practices by the government. "Government data are provided as aggregates, which is not good. We should break down the aggregation," Kant said. India's exports to G20 can more than double to $500 bn by 2030, says PHDCCI

India can scale up its merchandise exports to G20 nations to USD 500 billion by 2030 from the current USD 212 billion and significantly reduce trade deficit, industry body PHDCCI said on Tuesday. As the fastest growing economy in the G20 nations, India will play a significant role to convert uncertainties into opportunities, it added. "India's Presidency would be impactful for bringing stability at the most crucial juncture of geo-political conflicts, high inflation and slowing economic growth," said PHDCCI President Saket Dalmia. The prospects for expansion of exports with G20 are immense and merchandise shipments can be scaled up from USD 212 billion in 2021-22 to USD 500 billion by 2030, he said. India's enhanced integration with G20 countries will reduce its trade deficit with the grouping by more than 50 per cent by 2030 from the current level of USD 107 billion. Sikkim to host 2 G20 events to be held next year, says CM Prem Singh Tamang

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday said the Himalayan state has been assigned to host two events of the G-20. India officially assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 and is expected to host over 200 preparatory meetings across the country beginning this month. "Sikkim and Assam have been asked to host two events each of the G20 summit to be held in India next year," he said at a function in West Sikkim.
