G20 summit: MCD to repair old toilets, build new facilities in Delhi

New toilets will be built and old ones will be repaired across five zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi as part of the civic body's preparations for the G20 summit, officials said on Saturday. India assumed the year-long presidency of G20 on December 1. More than 200 meetings will be held at 55 locations in India and the summit will take place in the national capital in September 2023. The G20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union. Several roads and parks will be beautified, trees illuminated and public art will be installed at many locations in Delhi, according to civic officials. Work for the construction of new community toilet complexes (CTCs) and public toilets (PTs) and to repair the old ones has been intensified, the MCD said in a statement. G20: Beggars at Kashmere Gate ISBT to be shifted to night shelters in Jan

More than 1,000 beggars living in the Hanuman Mandir area near the Kashmere Gate ISBT will be shifted to night shelters in January in view of the G20 Summit to be held here in September next year, according to officials. The city government had, on December 15, asked the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to remove and relocate the beggars living in the area. A four-member committee under the DUSIB chief engineer was constituted to coordinate with government agencies, including the deputy commissioner of police of the district concerned, and prepare an action plan for shifting these people to night shelters. "More than 1,000 beggars have been identified during a survey conducted in the area on Wednesday and Thursday," a DUSIB official told PTI. These people will be shifted to night shelters by the first week of January. NDMC gearing up for G20 Summit, begins upgradation of roads: Council member

A dozen major roads in Lutyens' Delhi will be spruced up with resurfacing under preparations by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for the upcoming G20 Summit in the city, council member Kuljeet Chahal said on Friday. He said the NDMC, in its meeting, has approved an amount of Rs 12.35 crore for resurfacing 12 roads in the New Delhi area. The roads are Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Road, Jantar Mantar Road, R K Ashram Marg, Raisina Road, Red Cross Road, Sansad Marg, Udyan Marg, Mahadev Road, Bangla Sahib Road, Bhai Veer Singh Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent Marg and old RK Ashram Marg, he added. The NDMC is gearing up for the G20 Summit with upgradation of the New Delhi area with modern infrastructure, Chahal said. Delhi will host eight events of the Summit next year, beginning with a meeting of foreign ministers of the group on March 1. The heads of the G20 countries will have a summit meeting on September 9-10.

Over 10 lakh exotic potted plants will add to the beauty of the national capital as it gets ready to host the G20 Summit in September next year, forest department officials said on Wednesday. The horticulture wings of the central and Delhi government departments, including the Delhi Development Department, New Delhi Municipal Council, Public Works Department and Municipal Corporation of Delhi, have been asked to decorate public spaces, roundabouts, major intersections, flyovers and vertical greens in the city with exotic flowering plants, an official said. "Different species of exotic plants will be used for this purpose across Delhi. The locations and targets for each department will be finalised by April next year," the official said. Maha CM Shinde directs civic body to beautify Mumbai ahead of G20 meeting

Ahead of a G20 Council meeting in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked the local civic body to launch a beautification drive in the city on a mission mode. Shinde asked Mumbai civic authorities to depute 5,000 "Swatchhta Doots" (cleanliness ambassadors) and undertake beautification of the city.
