Kolkata to host International Seafood Show, with focus on G20 countries

Kolkata will host the India International Seafood Show 2023, which will feature a buyer-seller meet with a particular focus on G20 countries, organisers said on Tuesday. The three-day event organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in association with the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) will commence on Wednesday. The Show assumed significance as the Indian seafood sector needs to regain buoyancy in the post-pandemic phase in the face of stiff global competition and a stringent inspection regime imposed by the European Union and Japan on shrimp consignments. European Union and Japan are members of G20. According to M Karthikeyan, director of MPEDA, around 5,000 delegates from India and other countries are expected to attend the event. 150,000 delegates likely to visit India for G20 meetings in 2023

Nearly 1.50 lakh foreign delegates are expected to arrive in India this year to participate in various G20 meetings to be held in 56 cities, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Tuesday. Addressing reporters, Reddy said after independence and till 2014, only 13 antiquities which were smuggled out of India, were brought back. Whereas during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to various countries, 229 relics or monuments were brought to the country. India is hosting (heading) G20 this year. Officials and minister and delegates from 29 countries (20 countries of G20 group and nine special invitees) will be coming to India to participate in various meeting. The meetings will be held in 56 cities in India. Approximately 1.50 lakh foreign delegates are expected. Along with them their family members and associates are also expected." Owing to COVID-19 pandemic, he said the tourism sector suffered heavily for two years. However, the revival started in 2022 as domestic tourism .

Rs 1,000 cr to be spent by Delhi govt on G20 summit prep, related events

It is estimated that more than Rs 1,000 crore will be spent by various Delhi government agencies on the preparations for the G20 summit and related events to be held in the city in the coming months, officials said on Monday. Apart from upgrading the civic infrastructure, the beautification work and such other preparations by various departments of the city government and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will cost Rs 1,084 crore, they added. Delhi will host the main summit meeting of the G20 (Group of 20) countries and seven other related events, starting March. Earlier this month, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had written a letter to the Centre, seeking a grant of Rs 927 crore to take up special development projects for the G20 summit. According to the officials, 26 Delhi government departments and central agencies are working on the preparations for the summit. G20 Summit: Delhi LG reviews city makeover, orders setting of food street

Delhi LG VK Saxena has directed officials to develop a food Street around the Salimgarh Fort and to connect the Qutub Minar with Mehrauli Archeological Park to convert the area into a heritage walk, officials said on Sunday. Saxena had on Saturday visited several locations in the national capital to review the repair and revamp work underway for the G20 summit, scheduled to be held here in September. The LG directed the land and road owning agencies to ensure that the green spaces on the Outer Ring Road along Yamuna are spruced up and made encroachment-free. On February 2, Saxena had chaired a high level committee meeting to take stock of the ongoing works. Saxena began his inspection visits from ISBT, Hanuman Mandir, Salimgarh Fort, Red Fort, Outer Ring Road along Yamuna and the Samadhi stretch, and proceeded to south Delhi. Walking on foot, he instructed the officials to have areas around Hanuman Mandir and under the Hanuman Setu flyover cleaned and decongested, officials said.

G20's sustainable finance group to work on capacity building in segment

With sustainable finance being a niche sector and most still in the learning process, the Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) of G20 under India's presidency will work towards capacity building in the segment by identifying requirements, efforts already in place and existing gaps, an official said. It will then come up with recommendations on what needs to be done in specific areas and how organisations can contribute towards it, she added. Capacity building of the ecosystem for financing sustainable development was among the priority areas taken up for discussion in the 1st SFWG meet, Geetu Joshi, adviser, Ministry of Finance (MoF), said at the end of the two-day meeting here on Friday.
