India's G20 presidency: Infra Working Group meet to begin today in Pune

A two-day G20 Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting will begin in Maharashtra's Pune city on Monday where participants will deliberate on various aspects of infrastructure investments. The meeting will be joined by 65 delegates from IWG member countries, guest nations and international organisations invited by India to discuss the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda under India's G20 presidency, as per an official release. The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Government of India will host the two-day IWG meetings, with Australia and Brazil as co-chairs, the release said. "The G20 Infrastructure Working Group deliberates on various aspects of infrastructure investments, including developing infrastructure as an asset class, promoting quality infrastructure investment and identifying innovative instruments for mobilising financial resources for infrastructure investment," it said. Two-day meet under G20 begins today in Bhopal; 94 representatives to attend

A 'Think-20' meeting under the G20 will begin in Bhopal on Monday during which experts and foreign guests will discuss various topics including 'Global Governance with LiFE, Values, and Wellbeing', officials said. The two-day meeting will be attended by 94 representatives from different countries, besides intellectuals and officials from India, an official release said. The main speaker at the inaugural session will be Tetsushi Sonobe, Dean and CEO of the Asian Development Bank Institute, Tokyo. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend the inaugural function of the event, to be held at Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Centre in Bhopal. Bengal believes in giving development a humane face: Mamata at G20

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday attended the G20 meeting in Kolkata, where delegates from member countries have assembled for a three-day session, and said her government believes in giving development a humane face. Banerjee, during her speech, also said that the state government has created 12 million jobs, and increased Bengal's GDP manifold. She pointed out that people in the state have remained united notwithstanding the differences in religion, caste and languages. The CM also said that development took place in Bengal as "we empowered women, farmers, MSMEs". "We launched the 'government at your doorstep' (Duare Sarkar) programme to ensure that people get the benefits of our development initiatives. The programme won a national award," Banerjee said here at the first 'Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion' meeting of the G20.

MP govt forms committee to draw plans for upcoming G20 meetings in state

The Madhya Pradesh government has formed a committee of ministers for arrangements related to G20 meetings in the state, an official said on Friday. India assumed the presidency of the G20, an intergovernmental forum of the world's major developed and developing economies, on December 1 and would be hosting several meetings nationwide over the next one year. The G20 comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union. The committee formed by the MP government comprises Home Minister Narottam Mishra, PWD Minister Gopal Bhargava, Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Om Prakash Saklecha, and Tourism and Culture Minister Usha Thakur. Mamata did not get to speak at G20 virtual meet chaired by PM: Official

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday did not get a chance to speak at the virtual meeting of governors, chief ministers and lieutenant governors chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussion on various aspects of India's G20 presidency, a senior official here said. Banerjee, who had readied documents detailing Bengal's preparations for the G20 summit, "could not utter a single word" at the virtual meeting, the official, who also attended it, stated. "The CM was not given a chance to speak at the meeting. She had with her a set of documents on the state government's preparation for the G20 programmes, which are to be held in West Bengal," the official told PTI. The BJP on Tuesday slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for skipping the all-party meeting convened by the Centre to solicit suggestions for the G20 summit which will be held in India next year.
