G20 education working group three-day meeting concludes in Amritsar

A three-day G20 meeting on education concluded here on Friday with the delegates dwelling on creating a tech-enabled learning environment to promote equal opportunities, maintain quality standards, and encourage global collaboration across all levels of education. More than 55 delegates from the G20 countries, guest countries, and invited organisations such as UNICEF participated in the event which began on Wednesday. During his closing remarks on the event's last day, India chair and secretary, higher education, K Sanjay Murthy highlighted the importance of the community's involvement in student education and the urgency of greater collaboration and partnership. Putin may visit India for G20 summit, though no decision made yet: Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin may attend the G-20 summit in India in September, but no decision has yet been made, his spokesperson said on Monday. "It cannot be ruled out," Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked if Putin's participation in the summit in India in September was being considered. "But no decision has been made yet," Peskov was quoted as saying by the state-run Tass news agency. "Russia continues its full participation in the G20 format, we intend to continue it," Peskov added. The Russian delegation at the G20 leaders' forum in Bali, Indonesia last year was headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In 2020 and 2021 Putin attended the G20 summits via video link. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said in India's G20 presidency year, the country is getting "world ready" and the world is getting "India ready". Jaishankar inaugurated the refurbished Golden Haveli in Chandni Chowk. The haveli has been refurbished by BJP leader Vijay Goel who also gave a tour of the haveli to Jaishankar. "Pleased to inaugurate Golden Haveli Dharampura today. Thank Vijay Goel for the opportunity. Promoting our culture & heritage, generating tourism and expanding employment go hand in hand," Jaishankar tweeted along with pictures from the event. "In the G20 year, India is getting 'world ready' and the world is getting 'India ready'," he said. The haveli is situated in the heart of Chandni Chowk near Kinari Bazar.

Several G20 countries to participate in flower festival at Delhi's CP

Several G20 countries, including China and Japan, will participate in a flower festival at Central Park, Connaught Place here on the weekend, officials said on Thursday. The objective is to showcase the vibrancy and colourful display of G20 members and guest countries, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) said in a statement. The NDMC G-20 Flower Festival is being organised at Central Park, Connaught Place on March 11 and 12. Flower plants of different colours and varieties will be displayed in different forms and installations, it said. The NDMC will be displaying different flower plants showcasing the diversity of the Indian Subcontinent. The four G20 countries that are participating in the festival are China, Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands. The corporation will provide the required space to all the participating G20 member countries and guest countries for the flower festival, the statement said. Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion G20 meet concludes in Hyderabad

The second meeting of the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) under G20 India Presidency concluded here on Tuesday. According to an official release, the two-day meeting was led by GPFI Co-Chair and G20 India Presidency and saw participation from Ministry of Finance and Central Bank representatives from G20 and non-G20 countries and international organisations. The meeting also witnessed announcement of the selection of the new long-term Co-Chairs of the GPFI. India and Italy were announced as the new GPFI Co-Chairs with support from the whole membership. They have been selected for duration of three years and their tenure will commence from 2024, it said. IIT-Ropar to host G20 Education Working Group meet in Amritsar next week

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, will host the second G20 Education Working Group meeting in Amritsar from March 15 to 17 with a focus on the identification of relevant policies and best practices for research and innovations, officials said on Monday. The theme of the meeting is "Strengthening Research and Innovation through collaboration". IIT-Ropar Director Rajeev Ahuja said the event would help in ensuring a roadmap for multi-partner collaborations to facilitate accessibility and provision of research materials, reducing the gap between industry and academia and thereby discovering and identifying relevant policies and practises for research and innovations. G20 foreign ministers' meeting could not agree on joint communique

The G20 foreign ministers' meeting on Thursday was unable to come out with a joint communique due to sharp differences over the Ukraine conflict despite persistent efforts by host India to build consensus. The meeting, held under India's presidency, adopted a Chair's Summary and Outcome document. There were issues relating to the Ukraine conflict, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said at a media briefing. Several diplomats said there were deep divisions between the US-led West and the Russia-China combine over the Ukraine conflict. Jaishankar said there were "polarised views" on the issue. The external affairs minister said the Outcome Document and the Chair's Summary reflected the G20's resolve to deal with pressing global challenges. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday held bilateral talks with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang with a focus on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
