JK Tyre Industries is looking to expand its retail network across the country by up to 20 per cent over the next 12-18 months, a top company official said on Monday. The company, which on Monday expanded its retail presence in North India by opening six outlets, is also looking to bolster presence in the fast-growing sports utility vehicle and electric vehicle verticals. "We currently have around 650 brand shops across the country. Over the next 12-18 months we expect a 15-20 per cent addition in these outlets as we look to go nearer to the customer," JK Tyre and Industries President (India) Anuj Kathuria told PTI here in an interaction. Electric vehicle startup Simple Energy on Tuesday announced raising USD 20 million (about Rs 165 crore) from a clutch of investors as a part of its ongoing Bridge round. The funds will be utilised in a phased manner to ramp up production of the company's maiden e-scooter Simple ONE, which has not yet been delivered to a single customer even after 18 months of its launch. The company has been deferring deliveries of the vehicle since December 2021. "We have received a phenomenal pre-booking response, and to cater to the demand, we are raising funds in a timely manner. The funds raised will be strategically used to aid the production ramp-up and for a quicker delivery commencement," said Suhas Rajkumar, founder and CEO of Simple Energy. Electric commercial vehicle maker Etrio Automobiles in collaboration with EV financing platform Turno will deploy 1,000 e-three-wheelers pan-India in the next 12 months, the company said on Wednesday. The deployment of these vehicles will commence from cities such as Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chennai where both Etrio and Turno have a strong presence and eventually expand to various other parts of India, Etrio said. Under the long-term strategic alliance that Etrio has formed with Turno, the two partners will also work together to improve vehicle intelligence, it stated. VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) on Wednesday unveiled a range of vehicles, including an intercity bus that can travel up to 500 kilometer with a mix of depot and 30-40 minute opportunity charging during a journey. VECV, a joint venture of Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, unveiled 13.5 meter long electric intercity coach, Eicher Pro 2049 electric 4.9 T GVW Truck, which it claims to be the longest EV in the segment. "It will cover around 300-350 kilometer on a single depot charge of about six hours and with an opportunity charge of 30-40 minutes during the journey, it can travel next 150-200 kilometer, " VECV President for Bus Division Akash Passey told PTI. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday inaugurated 11 high-tech low cost electric charging stations in different parts of the city, taking yet another step towards pushing the residents to shift to electric vehicles (EVs).
