Gujarat to host disaster management meet from March 30 as part of G20

Gujarat will host a meet on disaster management from March 30 till April 1 as part of India's G20 presidency, an official said on Friday. It was earlier announced by the government that Gujarat will host the next round of G20 meetings from March 27 till April 4, during which three meetings will take place in the state. While the first meeting on 'Environment and Climate Sustainability' will will take place between March 27 and 29 in Gandhinagar, this second meeting of 'Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group" will be held from March 30 till April 1, said Indian Administrative Service official Mona Khandhar, who is coordinating G20 events in Gujarat. "A curtain raiser event on lessons learnt from past earthquakes will be held on March 29 at Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management in Gandhinagar. Disaster risk reduction and management are turning into a people's movement as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his principal secretary P K Mishra said Saturday and called for professionalizing the setup for it. Addressing the valedictory programme of the third session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR), he expressed happiness about the enlarged scope of conversation and the breadth and depth of the discussions. Mishra, who has attended all three sessions of NPDRR since 2013, said that with its pan-India presence, the event is turning disaster risk reduction into a 'Jan Andolan' as envisaged by the prime minister. Andaman & Nicobar islands may face squalls, heavy rains on Nov 15-16

The Directorate of Disaster Management has issued heavy rainfall warning in some places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 15-16. All the floating, aviation and ashore units of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Coast Guard (ICG), the Navy were mobilised and put on high alert, it said, adding that these assets have been deployed in Andaman sea. Though the alert has been issued for the next five days from Sunday but on November 15 and 16, the rainfall likely to create havoc in some parts of the archipelago including, Port Blair, Campbell Bay, Kamorta and Diglipur, the department said. "Due to squally weather, wind speed exceeding 45 kmph is likely to prevail over Andaman Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in coming few days," a statement issued by the Directorate of Disaster Management said. A state disaster management plan has been prepared for the Himachal Pradesh assembly election, 2022 along with District Disaster Management Plans, as per the instruction of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), said a statement on Thursday.The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has deployed the teams of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) comprising 50 personnel in tribal areas of Lahaul & Spiti and Chamba districts for quick response in any untoward incidents or natural calamities, added a statement.Ten personnel of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed at district headquarters (HQ) Chamba and Pangi, besides ten of NDRF at District HQ Lahaul-Spiti, Kaza and Udaipur.The State Government has declared a public holiday on the poll day i.e. November 12, 2022, to the employees working in government offices, boards, Corporations, educational institutions and industrial establishments situated in Himachal Pradesh on account of assembly ...

Odisha to prepare disaster management warriors to face calamities: Patnaik

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said the state is all set to introduce disaster and pandemic management curricula in schools and colleges to prepare Disaster Management Yodhas (warriors) in every village and household. Patnaik said this while addressing a meeting marking the observance of the Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Reduction. The day is observed to remember the 1999 super cyclone which killed about 10,000 people in the state. "Disaster and Pandemic Management is being introduced in the educational curricula of students from standard 4 to graduation level with a view to preparing Disaster Management Yodhas in every village and household," the chief minister said. Centre signs headquarters agreement with CDRI, enables international status

205 people died in this year's monsoon season in HP; loss of Rs 1,014 cr

At least 205 people lost their lives and seven went missing in the state in the last over one-and-a-half-month of the monsoon season, the state disaster management director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said here on Thursday. Since June 29, the state has suffered a total loss of Rs 1,014.08 crore due to damaged roads, water lines, and power transmission, he also said. At least 103 people lost their lives in 35 accidents from June 29 to August 16 during the ongoing monsoon season, and 33 people were killed in as many incidents of tree and rock fall. Twenty-five people drowned in six incidents, seven died in 48 landslides, and three lost their lives in 51 flash floods that occurred during the period, he said. Besides, 120 animals also lost their lives, 95 houses were fully damaged and 335 houses partially damaged in monsoon-related incidents in various parts of the state, Mokhta said.
