Work has begun on installation of six steel spans on a 350-metre stretch of the Delhi-Meerut-Ghaziabad RRTS corridor in the national capital, officials said on Monday. This is the only location on the entire Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor where such a long viaduct is being constructed with steel spans, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said in a statement. Of these, the about 70-metre-long first special steel span has been successfully installed. This special steel span, weighing 560 tonnes, has been installed in the Kondli area near the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station, it said. The six steel spans are to be installed near Ghazipur drain for construction of the viaduct. The RRTS corridor is progressing parallel to the drain. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi appointed a new municipal secretary on Monday, as it disengaged from services Bhagwan Singh, who was serving on a contractual basis after retirement from the post, according to officials. The move comes a day ahead of the special meeting that has been convened at the MCD headquarters on Tuesday to discuss and deliberate on the civic budget. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea by K Kavitha, Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, seeking protection from arrest and challenging the summons by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case arising out of the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. A court on Saturday adjourned till April 5 the hearing on the bail plea of AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who has been arrested by the ED in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in implementing the now-scrapped excise policy in Delhi. Special Judge MK Nagpal adjourned the hearing after Sisodia's counsel sought more time to prepare a detailed response to ED's submission on the bail plea. Sisodia moved the bail plea on Tuesday and the court sought the Enforcement Directorate's response by March 25. On Wednesday, after seven days of questioning by the ED, the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody. On Friday, the court reserved its order on a separate bail plea moved by Sisodia in the excise policy case lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation. A special meeting has been convened at the MCD headquarters on March 28 to discuss and deliberate on the civic budget, officials said on Saturday. As required by norms, the civic budget is to be cleared by March 31. The MCD passed the "schedule of taxes" in the civic budget for 2023-24 on February 15. But, the remaining budget process was stalled as the standing committee of the civic body is yet to be elected. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is "exploring options" to have the remainder of the civic budget cleared by March 31, official sources said on Friday.
