Tata Motors on Friday said its arm -- TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd -- has signed an agreement with Delhi Transport Corporation for the operation of 1,500 electric buses in the National Capital. Under the pact, TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd will supply, operate and maintain 1,500 units of 12-metre low-floor air-conditioned electric buses for a period of 12 years, the company said in a statement. "Our relationship with DTC, which stands strong for over a decade, is based on the foundation of mutual trust and cooperation, and this order will further strengthen it. We are confident that the electric buses will provide sustainable, safe and comfortable public transportation to the commuters of Delhi," TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd Chairman Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay said. G20: Beggars at Kashmere Gate ISBT to be shifted to night shelters in Jan

More than 1,000 beggars living in the Hanuman Mandir area near the Kashmere Gate ISBT will be shifted to night shelters in January in view of the G20 Summit to be held here in September next year, according to officials. The city government had, on December 15, asked the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to remove and relocate the beggars living in the area. A four-member committee under the DUSIB chief engineer was constituted to coordinate with government agencies, including the deputy commissioner of police of the district concerned, and prepare an action plan for shifting these people to night shelters. "More than 1,000 beggars have been identified during a survey conducted in the area on Wednesday and Thursday," a DUSIB official told PTI. These people will be shifted to night shelters by the first week of January. NCDC testing sewage samples in Delhi to check for Covid-19: Officials

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has been collecting sewage samples from seven sites across Delhi and testing them for the presence of coronavirus variants, officials said at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here. The Omicron sub-variant BF.7 of the coronavirus has not been detected in the sewage surveillance reports for the last four consecutive weeks, according to a presentation made at the meeting. These places are Batla House, Swan Cinema, Shahdara, Sonia Vihar, Wazirpur, Nangloi and Bhalswa Lake. Officials also shared that only 24 per cent of the eligible people have taken the precaution dose of coronavirus vaccine as on December 21). Stressing on the need for uniformly wide pathways for pedestrians, especially along congested roads, the Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the stand of the Delhi Waqf Board on a plea about the presence of a mosque next to a temple on Mathura road that has obstructed the Public Works Department's right of way. Justice Prathiba M Singh issued notice to the waqf board on a petition by the temple caretakers who moved the high court earlier this month after the authorities sent them a letter over alleged encroachment by the temple near the ITO. Dense fog disrupts road, rail traffic in Delhi; visibility at 200 m

A layer of dense fog enveloped the Indo-Gangetic plains including Delhi Thursday morning, affecting road and rail traffic. A railway spokesperson said 20 trains were running late by 1:30 to 4:30 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) 'very dense' fog is when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, 51 and 200 is 'dense', 201 and 500 'moderate', and 501 and 1,000 'shallow'. The Met office said the Palam and Safdarjung airport logged visibility levels of 200 metres at 5:30 am. On Tuesday, visibility levels had plunged to 50 metres at both these places. Centre to provide Delhi Rs 700 cr for construction, beautification of roads

The Centre has decided to provide Delhi with Rs 700 cr out of a fund for construction, repair, maintenance and beautification of roads in the national capital, officials said on Wednesday. The decision was taken during a meeting between Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari and Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena, according to a statement issued by the Raj Niwas. It was decided that Delhi will be provided with Rs 700 cr out of the Central Road Fund (CRF) for construction, repair, maintenance and beautification of roads in the national capital, it said. To make the All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Delhi campus free of drug abuse, the hospital administration on Tuesday issued directions for sensitisation of staff members and students about various punitive provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. In an office memorandum, AIIMS Director M Srinivas asked all heads of departments to bring to the attention of the staff and students working under them the various provisions including that of fine and imprisonment under the NDPS Act. He also instructed all security personnel not to allow patients, attendants, visitors and staff members to use drugs, in any form, in the hospital premises.
