Congress slams Delhi govt's education model, terms it model of fraud

The Congress on Saturday alleged the education model being promoted by the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi is a "model of fraud" and, if applied in other states, the entire education system will be "ruined". Congress spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said it is important to expose the "so-called education model" of the Aam Aadmi Party, so that the education system running in other states does not get ruined by their "bluff". "This is not a model of education, but a model of fraud, a model of modeling," the former MP alleged. Citing statistics, Dikshit also claimed if Kejriwal's "so-called education model" is adopted in other states, the entire education system will be ruined. Major delay in 7 hospital work of Delhi govt, most only half-finished: Data

The construction of most of the seven ICU hospitals with capacity of 6,800 beds that were planned to accommodate COVID patients during the third wave of the infection, has reached around only halfway mark so far, official data showed. Work on the 458-bed hospital in Kirari, which was originally scheduled to be complete by February 2023, had not started till September 17 this year, showed the data shared by the Delhi government in a COVID review meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday. Only 19 per cent of those aged between 18 to 59 have taken the precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Delhi, according to official data. As of now, the overall percentage of precautionary dose vaccination stands at 24 per cent. In the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting held on Thursday, there was a consensus that this percentage needs to be brought up to at least 40-50 per cent. Out of a total of 1.33 crore beneficiaries eligible for the precaution doses, only 31.49 lakh (24 per cent) had taken them till September 20. According to official data, as of September 20, a total of 1.14 crore beneficiaries were due for precaution doses in the age group of 18 to 59 with only 21.21 lakh taking it. In the age cohort of those aged above 60, 13.20 lakh beneficiaries are eligible, with nearly half of them -- 6.33 lakh or 48 per cent -- taken the precautionary dose. CBI to probe AAP govt for 'irregularities' in purchase of 1,000 buses

Delhi LG V K Saxena has approved a proposal to forward a complaint to the CBI to probe the alleged corruption in the procurement of 1,000 low-floor buses by the DTC, official sources said on Saturday. A complaint addressed to Saxena in June this year had highlighted the appointment of the Minister of Transport as the chairman of the committee for tendering and procurement of buses by DTC in a premeditated manner. It had also claimed that the appointment of DIMTS as bid management consultant for this tender was done with an aim to facilitate wrongdoing. The complaint had alleged irregularities in a July 2019 procurement bid for 1,000 low floor BS-IV and BS-VI buses, and another bid made in March 2020 for the purchase and annual maintenance contract for low floor BS-VI buses, the sources said. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday wrote to Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, seeking time to discuss and prepare a joint action plan to fight air pollution in the national capital in winter. The Delhi government is committed to providing clean air to people and is working on short-term and long-term measures. These measures are being implemented through action plans for summers and winters, he said. Rai said the Delhi government's efforts have led to an increase in the number of "satisfactory" (AQ1 51 to 100) and "moderate" (AQI 101 to 200) air quality days. Delhi govt to build elevated road, flyover, underpass to curb traffic

In a major boost to urban infrastructure, the Delhi government will construct an elevated road, a flyover and an underpass that would help in reducing traffic congestion in the national capital. An elevated road will be built on G T Road between Azadpur and Rani Jhansi Road intersection. A double-deck flyover will be built on one part of this road with vehicles moving on its lower deck and metro trains on the upper deck, according to an official statement issued on Saturday.
