Covid cases in Delhi are expected the rise in the coming days as the city is densely populated, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said Monday and asked people with flu-like symptoms to wear masks and avoid public places. The national capital reported 699 COVID-19 cases and four deaths on Sunday. Three deaths reported on Sunday were due to various diseases and Covid was "incidental". In one case, the primary reason was Covid, Bharadwaj told reporters. "Any death is unfortunate," the Delhi health minister said, adding the "Delhi government and its health department is on high alert". Bharadwaj cautioned people that Covid cases are expected to rise in the city in the coming days. "Delhi is a densely populated city. Cases will rise and many people will exhibit flu-like and influenza-like symptoms such as fever and cough. But they will recover," he said. Air India returns to deboard unruly passenger from Delhi-London flight

Air India on Monday deboarded an unruly passenger from its Delhi-London flight, which returned to the national capital, according to sources. The sources said flight AI 111, which had around 225 passengers, returned to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here as there was an unruly male passenger onboard. The unruly passenger was deboarded at the airport and later the flight took off for London Heathrow, they added. A statement from Air India on the incident was awaited.

Maximum temperature in Delhi likely to soar to 35 degrees Celsius

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant Monday morning with the minimum temperature settling at 15.7 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was 52 per cent. The weather office has forecast partly cloudy skies for the day with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius. Delhi's air quality index stood at 194 at 9.10 am. The AQI of neighbouring Gurgaon was 183, Faridabad 159, Ghaziabad 192, Noida 190 and Greater Noida 227. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.

A Hindu Rashtra Panchayat on Sunday gave a call for making north-east Delhi, which was rocked by riots in 2020, the first Hindu Rashtra district of the country and asked its residents not to sell or rent out their properties to minorities. Delhi adds 699 fresh Covid-19 cases, positivity rate of 21.15%: Govt data

Delhi on Sunday logged 699 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 21.15 per cent, according to data shared by the city government's health department. Four people suffering from COVID-19 died in the city. However, the health bulletin stated that COVID-19 was the primary cause of death in just one case. With the fresh cases, Delhi's COVID-19 tally has risen to 20,14,637. The death toll stands at 26,540, the bulletin stated. Delhi records 535 fresh Covid-29 cases, positivity rate now at 23.05%

Delhi logged 535 fresh Covid cases on Saturday with a positivity rate of 23.05 per cent, according to data shared by the city government's health department. The city had logged 733 Covid cases -- the highest in more than seven months -- on Friday with a positivity rate of 19.93 per cent. The national capital had recorded 620 cases on August 26, 2022. On Thursday, 606 cases were recorded with a positivity rate of 16.98 per cent, and one fatality. On Wednesday, the city logged a positivity rate of 26.54 per cent, the highest in nearly 15 months, with 509 people testing positive in a single day. In January last year, the positivity rate had touched the 30-per cent mark. Delhi saw 521 cases on Tuesday and one fatality. The positivity rate stood at 15.64 per cent. At present, the city's COVID-19 death toll stands at 26,536, according to the bulletin. With the fresh cases, Delhi's infection tally has risen to 20,13,938. The data showed that 2,321 Covid tests were conducted on Friday.

CNG, piped cooking gas price down by up to Rs 6 in Delhi, 1st cut in 2 yrs

The prices of CNG and cooking gas piped to household kitchens in the national capital on Saturday were cut by up to Rs 6 - the first reduction in two years - after the government changed the pricing formula of natural gas. CNG in the national capital territory of Delhi will now cost Rs 73.59 per kg, down from Rs 79.56, Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) - the firm which retails CNG and piped cooking gas in the city, said in a Twitter post. Simultaneously, the rates of gas piped to household kitchens, called piped natural gas (PNG), has been cut to Rs 48.59 per standard cubic metre in Delhi from Rs 53.59 per scm, according to IGL. The reduction follows an over 80 per cent increase in prices in two years. CNG prices were hiked on 15 occasions between April 2021 and December 2022. Since April 2021, CNG prices have increased by Rs 36.16 per kg, or 83 per cent, according to data compiled by PTI. CNG prices were last hiked on December 17, 2022. Delhi temperature six notches below season's average, at min of 14.1 deg C

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant morning on Saturday as the minimum temperature in the national capital settled at 14.1 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The relative humidity at 8:30 am was 49 per cent. The IMD has predicted clear skies for the day which could turn partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the 'moderate' (159) category around 8 am. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Inquiry initiated, action will be taken: Mayor on DCW inspection of toilets

Days after the DCW issued summons to authorities after finding ill-maintained public toilets during an inspection, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Friday said an "inquiry" has been ordered and "appropriate action" will be taken. Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal along with two other panel members had inspected certain toilets with a team of counsellors and local residents on Wednesday. The DCW had then summoned the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board officials over the "pathetic condition" of toilets managed by them. "We are initiating an inquiry into the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against whoever who will be found guilty of negligence," a statement from the Delhi Mayor's office quoting Oberoi said. Delhi BJP office to be shifted to DDU Marg, construction to begin soon

The office of the BJP's Delhi unit is likely to be moved from Pant Marg to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Marg close to its national headquarters in the near future, party leaders said on Friday. The "bhoomi pujan" ceremony for the construction of the new office building is likely to be held in three-four months, a senior party leader said. Necessary approvals for beginning the building construction have been sought from the agencies concerned, he said. Over 3,000 Covid cases logged in Delhi last week, active tally jumps 121%

More than 3,000 cases of Covid have been recorded in Delhi in the past one week, while the tally of active cases has increased by over 121 per cent in the same period, according to official data. The national capital logged 606 cases on Thursday, the highest in over seven months, with a positivity rate of 16.98 per cent. The city had recorded 620 cases on August 26. According to data shared by the Delhi government's health department, the active cases tally on Thursday stood at 2,060, a jump of over 121 per cent since March 30 when the corresponding figure was 932. In the March 30-April 6 period, six fatalities have been recorded, including two deaths on April 3. According to health department bulletins shared over these days, "Covid finding was incidental" in all the cases. The positivity rate too has seen a rise in the past one week. On April 5, the city logged a positivity rate of 26.54 per cent, the highest in nearly 15 months, with 509 people testing positive in a single day.

Delhi mayor inspects slum dwellings, asks officials to renovate dhobi ghat

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Thursday made surprise visits to slum dwellings in Vikaspuri and directed officials to carry out renovation of a dhobi ghat and an MCD-run welfare centre there. Local MLA Mahendra Yadav and Councillor Sahib Kumar Asiwal apprised the mayor about the problems being faced by the residents of Vikaspuri, according to an official statement.
