Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt on Wednesday said no one has the guts to cast an evil eye on India and the country is capable of giving an immediate response. He also said India has emerged as a leader in every sphere including the water, land, and air, under the guidance of Prime minister Narendra Modi. "No one has guts to cast an (evil) eye on us because if anyone dares so, we are capable of giving an immediate response," Bhatt said when asked about China's belligerence in Ladakh. He didn't give a direct reply to the question on China, saying he was not authorised to speak on some issues. Bhatt was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the 'Global Meet on Defence, Transportation and Energy. New research centre at IIT Roorkee for futuristic defence tech requirements

Keeping in tune with India's mission for technological upgradation and self-reliance in the defence sector, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has approved a new research centre at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee).The facility will be known as 'DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence' (DIA-CoE) at IIT Roorkee. Eyeing $5-bn exports, $22-bn turnover in defence sector by 2025: Rajnath

Terming exports as a key pillar for long-term sustainability of the domestic defence industry, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the government has set itself a target of achieving defence exports of USD 5 billion by 2025. Speaking at an event at the 12th Defence Expo here, he also said the government was eyeing overall turnover of USD 22 billion in defence production in the same timeframe. "Domestic demand alone may not always provide economies of scale to make profitable investments and sustain them," Singh said, speaking at a seminar jointly organised by the US-India Business Council and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers at Mahatma Mandir. Road Transport and Highways Secretary Aramane Giridhar has been named the new defence secretary as part of a top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre on Wednesday. Giridhar, a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Department of Defence. He will take over as secretary of the Department of Defence after the retirement of Ajay Kumar on October 31, a personnel ministry order said. INS Sunayna in Seychelles marks India's maiden participation in CMF

INS Sunayna has reached Seychelles to take part in the annual training exercise 'Operation Southern Readiness' of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), the defence ministry said here on Monday. The ship had entered Port Victoria, Seychelles on September 24. "This not only reinforces Indian Navy's commitment to maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region but also marks the maiden participation of an Indian Navy ship in CMF exercise," the ministry said in a statement. It will participate in the annual training exercise Operation Southern Readiness of the CMF, the ministry said. The upcoming 'DefExpo 2022', slated to be held in Gujarat's Gandhinagar, is set to be the first-ever edition exclusively for Indian companies, the Ministry of Defence said on Saturday. Over 1,000 exhibitors have registered and the numbers are anticipated to be the highest-ever recorded during the previous editions of DefExpo, it said. Defence Ministry to acquire dual-role missiles from BrahMos Aerospace

In a further impetus to self-reliance in defence production, the Defence Ministry on Thursday signed a contract with BrahMos Aerospace for acquisition of additional dual-role capable surface-to-surface BrahMos missiles at an approximate cost of Rs 1,700 crore under 'Buy-Indian' category. In a statement, the ministry said the induction of these dual-role capable missiles is going to "significantly enhance" the operational capability of Indian Navy fleet assets. BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd.
