Health ministry approaches CERT-In over attempt to hack its website

The Union health ministry has asked the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to look into the reported attempt of hacking of its website allegedly by a Russian hacker group. Cyber security experts from CloudSEK have claimed that Russian hacker group 'Phoenix' targeted the website and managed to get access to the ministry's Health Management Information System portal, has details of all the hospitals of India and employees and physicians. "We have sought details and asked the CERT-In to look into the alleged hacking of the health ministry's website. They will submit a report," an official source told PTI. CERT-In is the national nodal agency for responding to computer security incidents and provides prevention and response services to government departments and private bodies. 880 cybercriminals arrested, Rs 44 cr recovered during 2022: Haryana DGP

Haryana Director General of Police P K Agrawal on Thursday said 880 cyber criminals were arrested and Rs 44 crore recovered from them during the year. Of them, 480 were arrested by the Faridabad and Gurugram police. The DGP said till December 15, the Haryana Police received 62,089 complaints of cybercrime of which 26,885 have been disposed. In the period, it had also registered 2,016 cases and worked out 605 of them. Fifty-one cases of cybercrime were registered by police itself. These were cases in which complainants were not coming forward, and 24 of them have already been worked out, he said. He also said steps are being taken to strengthen the Panchkula-based cyber forensic laboratory by recruiting additional technical hands, according to a statement. The DGP added that a proposal is under consideration to set up such labs at the police range and commissionerate headquarters. Jamtara strives to shed cyber crime image through education-based campaign

Jharkhand's Jamtara district, infamous as India's cyber crime hub, is making efforts to tide over the dubious distinction through a unique campaign Police ki Pathshala' (Police's School), which aims at imparting quality education and creating awareness about phishing activities. The drive, a joint initiative of the police and district administration, is being carried out across libraries in 118 panchayats, officials said. Special focus has been given to 35 libraries of two cyber crime-hit blocks -- Karmatand and Narayanpur. The objective is to make the youths aware about phishing and make them a participant in developmental activities, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber) Majrul Hoda told PTI. The campaign also strives to prepare the youths for competitive examinations through expert guidance, he said. 600k cyber crime complaints registered on govt portal since 2019: MoS Home

Six lakh complaints of cyber crime have been registered at the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System since its inception in 2019, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra said on Tuesday. Mishra said the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), has been launched for immediate reporting of financial frauds and to stop siphoning off funds by fraudsters. The toll-free helpline number '1930' has been operationalised for assistance in lodging online cyber complaints. "Since the inception of Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, more than six lakh complaints have been registered till December 12, 2022, and in more than 1.11 lakh complaints, so far, financial amount of more than Rs 188 crore have been saved," he said in Lok Sabha during Question Hour. J&K to bolster Cyber crime cell, set up helpline to record grievances

The Jammu and Kashmir administration will strengthen the cyber crime cell and set up a helpline to record and address citizens' grievances related to cyber frauds and pornography. Under the recently launched Cyber Security Policy, the administration is also taking various steps such as modifying the curriculum for high schools to include aspects of cyber security relevant to children. "The UT of Jammu and Kashmir will augment the existing specialised cyber crime cell (of home department) for investigating complaints pertaining to offences under the Information Technology Act. "The Government shall further strengthen this unit to simplify and galvanize reporting, tackling and tracking progress on cyber-crimes. The UT will strive to create a cyber space free of pornography (especially child pornography), cyber bullying and sexual harassment.
