Australia will beat India in T20 World Cup final: Ponting

Defending champions Australia will beat India in the finals of the T20 World Cup to lift the trophy, predicted two-time World Cup winning skipper Ricky Ponting. The 47-year-old has picked India and Australia as the finalists at the showpiece. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in October and November later this year Down Under. "I think India and Australia will be the two playing in the final and I will just have to say that Australia will beat them in the final," Ponting said during the latest episode of The ICC Review. "The reigning champions have got home conditions and that was one thing that made Australia's win in the last World Cup, not remarkable but that little bit sweeter for them. "The fact that a lot of people, me included, thought when they went to UAE, the conditions that they were going to have to face on the back of the IPL, I thought the conditions might have been the thing that might not have allowed them to win it. But they found a way." England white-ba

Sri Lanka posts 378 against Pakistan, gets key wicket of Shafique on Day 2

Asitha Fernando claimed a key wicket with the second ball of Pakistan's innings, dismissing Abdullah Shafique without scoring Monday to give Sri Lanka an early advantage in the second cricket test. Shafique poked at a delivery that he should have left alone and ended up getting a thick inside edge onto his stumps. Pakistan was 15-1 at lunch on Day 2. Shafique was the player of the match in the series opener, scoring 160 during a marathon innings to guide Pakistan to a record successful run chase at Galle. Babar Azam had a nervous moment in the second over of Pakistan's innings when Sri Lanka had a review of an LBW decision rejected. He was not out on seven at lunch and Imam-ul-Haq was unbeaten on four. Sri Lanka resumed Monday on the overnight total of 315-6 and batted for most of the morning session before being dismissed for 378 in its first innings. Fast bowler Naseem Shah accounted for both overnight batsmen Dunith Wellalage (11) and Niroshan Dickwella (51). Ramesh Mendis wa

India fined 20% of match fee for slow over rate in first ODI against WI

The Indian cricket team was fined 20 per cent of its match fee for maintaining a slow-over rate against the West Indies in the first ODI here. Match Referee Richie Richardson imposed the sanction after the Shikhar Dhawan-led side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. "In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the ICC stated in a statement on Sunday. Dhawan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Joel Wilson and Leslie Reifer, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth umpire Nigel Duguid levelled the charge. India had pulled off a three-run win over the West Indies in the first ODI.
