Puducherry reports 63 fresh Covid-19 cases, overall tally rises to 174,002

The union territory of Puducherry logged 63 new coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours pushing the overall tally to 1,74,002. The Puducherry region alone accounted for 33 of the 63 infections while Karaikal added 26 and Mahe and Yanam had two each, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release on Tuesday. The new cases were detected after the examination of 1,217 samples, he added. The union territory had reported 48 fresh infections on Monday. A 85-year-old woman succumbed to the infection in JIPMER, taking the death toll to 1,971. The number of active cases stood at 502 which included 15 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals while the remaining 487 were in home quarantine. As many as 88 persons recovered during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM Tuesday and the overall recoveries rose to 1,71,529. Maha's Thane logs 49 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death; active case tally at 731

As many as 49 new cases of coronavirus and one death due to the disease have been reported in Maharashtra's Thane district, a health official said on Tuesday. With the addition of the latest cases and death on Monday, the infection tally in the district, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has gone up to 7,44,504 and the fatality toll to 11,959, he said. There are currently 731 active COVID-19 cases in Thane, he said, adding that the count of recoveries has reached 7,32,518.

India added 6,298 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,22,777, while the active cases climbed 46,748, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The death toll climbed to 5,28,273 with 23 fatalities which includes four deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 2.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.71 per cent, the ministry said. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.89 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.70 per cent, according to the ministry. Odisha reports 260 new Covid-19 cases; active tally stands at 1,674

Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 13,30,853 on Wednesday as 260 more people, including 29 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. The toll remained at 9,185 as there were no new deaths. Fifty-three other patients have died due to comorbidities so far, it said. Odisha had recorded 159 infections on Tuesday. Maharashtra on Monday recorded 414 COVID-19 cases and one fatality, which took the tally to 81,11,246 and the toll to 1,48,289, an official said. This was a dip from the 701 cases and three deaths recorded a day earlier, he pointed out. Mumbai accounted for 128 cases and one death. The recovery count in Maharashtra rose by 771 in the last 24 hours and reached 79,57,095, leaving the state with an active caseload of 5,862, the official said. Mumbai on Monday recorded 128 new cases of coronavirus that took the overall tally to 11,48,106, while one more patient succumbed to the infection in the city, said a civic official. With one more COVID-19-linked death registered in the metropolis, the toll increased to 19,719, said the official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The count of recoveries rose to 11,26,721 after 172 people recuperated from the infection, he said. The city has a coronavirus recovery rate of 98.1 per cent and is now left with 1,666 active cases, the official said. As per a bulletin issued by the civic body, 6,206 swab samples were examined in the last 24 hours for detection of COVID-19, taking the number of tests conducted so far to 1,81,81,541. Of the 128 new cases, only 11 patients were symptomatic, it stated. The growth rate of COVID-19 cases in the city stood at 0.022 per cent between September 5 and September 11, while the case doubling rate has improved to 3,203 days.

Tamil Nadu posts 436 fresh coronavirus cases; active tally at 4,918

Tamil Nadu on Friday recorded 436 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total caseload to 35,72,802. A lone passenger from Canada added to 436 positive cases today. There have been 38,038 fatalities due to the contagion so far and no death was reported today, according to a bulletin from the State health department. A total of 35,29,846 COVID-19 patients were discharged following treatment so far and this includes 442 who recovered today. The active cases declined to 4,918 from 4,924, a day ago. Among the districts, Chennai, Coimbatore and Chengalpattu recorded a maximum of 87, 57 and 43 cases, respectively.
