The Congress Friday accused the BJP and RSS of giving communal colour to the alleged rape and murder of two Dalit sisters in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri and demanded that justice delivery in the case be fast-tracked. The Opposition party also demanded the Narendra Modi government should implement the SC/ST Act with "full force". Two teenage sisters were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field located about a kilometre from their house in Lakhimpur Kheri's Nighasan police station limits Wednesday. Six people were arrested on Thursday in connection with the alleged rape and killing of the two girls. Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters here, the party's Scheduled Caste department head Rajesh Lilothia said the alleged rape and murder of the two sisters should not be seen as an isolated incident and alleged that atrocities against Dalits have been rising. One more person held for raising anti-Muslim slogans at Jantar Mantar

The Delhi Police has arrested one more person for allegedly raising anti-Muslim slogans during a protest near Jantar Mantar here on August 8, officials said on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Uttam Upadhyay, was arrested from Ghaziabad on Sunday, police said. In a video that surfaced on social media, the police said he was the main person who was seen raising slogans. Seven people, including advocate and former BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay, have already been arrested in the case. The slogans, the police said, were raised during the August 8 protest organised by the Bharat Jodo Andolan held near Jantar Mantar. The earlier arrests were made after an FIR was registered at the Connaught Place Police Station. It pertained to provocative sloganeering at the programme, the police said.
