Chandigarh coronavirus update: 2 more deaths, 57 new cases reported in UT

The death of two more persons due to coronavirus pushed the toll to 216 in Chandigarh while 57 new cases took the infection tally to 13,977 on Saturday. There are 674 active cases in the city as of now, as per a medical bulletin. It said that a total of 78 patients were discharged after they recovered from infection, taking the number of cured persons to 13,087. A total of 1,00,797 samples have been taken for testing so far and of them, 86,213 tested negative while reports of 116 samples were awaited, as per the bulletin.

Govt rushes teams to Punjab, Chandigarh amid surge in Covid-19 cases

With a record spike in new coronavirus cases in the country, which on Sunday became the world's second most COVID-affected country, the Union health ministry rushed teams to Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh, which has seen a surge in cases and fatalities.Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) decided to rush central teams to assist the assist the State/UT in strengthening public health measures for containment, surveillance, testing and efficient clinical management of COVID-19 patients with the aim to reduce mortality and save lives.They shall also guide the State/UT in effectively addressing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up."The two-member teams will comprise of a Community Medicine expert from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, and an epidemiologist from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Chandigarh lifts night curfew in compliance with govt's Unlock 4 guidelines

The Chandigarh administration on Monday announced lifting of night curfew in the city. The decision has been taken in compliance with central government directives under 'Unlock 4', an official release said The night curfew was in force from 10 pm till 5 am in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Centre on August 29 had asked the state governments and Union Territory administrations that they would not impose any local lockdown outside COVID-19 containment zones without prior consultation with the central government. The decision of lifting night curfew was taken in a meeting, chaired by the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, V P Singh Badnore, here. On August 28, the Chandigarh administration had decided to discontinue weekend closure of markets in the city. Delhi weather: No relief from icy winds as temperature dips further

The cold wave sweeping the northern states tightened its grip on Wednesday with Delhi and other major cities recording lowest temperatures of the season and fog cover in isolated places in Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. The national capital recorded the coldest day of the season, with the minimum temperature settling at 7 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal. The maximum was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal, and the humidity levels oscillated between 97 and 61 per cent, the Meteorological Department said. Schools in neighbouring Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar were ordered to remain closed on Thursday and Friday due to the cold weather.
