President Droupadi Murmu will visit Chandigarh from October 8 to 9, a statement issued on Friday by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said. The president will grace the 90th anniversary of Indian Air Force at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh on Saturday. She will also attend a civic reception to be hosted in her honour at Punjab Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh, it said. On October 9, the president will inaugurate the newly constructed building of Chandigarh secretariat, it said. She will also grace the 52nd convocation and closing ceremony of centenary year celebrations of Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh, before returning to Delhi, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in the late night statement.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will get married at a private ceremony here on Thursday. Mann (48), will be tying the knot with Dr Gurpreet Kaur, who belongs to Pehowa in Haryana's Kurukshetra. It will be Mann's second marriage. He had separated from his first wife in 2015 and has two children -- daughter Seerat Kaur (21) and son Dilshan (17) -- from his first marriage. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, lodged in Patiala central jail, was admitted to Chandigarh's PGIMER on Monday afternoon, sources said. Sidhu underwent medical examination at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research's Hepatology department, hospital sources said. In the afternoon, Sidhu was admitted to the PGIMER where he had been brought under heavy security from Patiala prison. More tests were expected to be conducted, sources said. The former Punjab Congress chief on May 20 was sent to Patiala central jail after he surrendered before a local court. He has been sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court in a 1988 road rage death case. About two weeks back, Sidhu was taken to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for medical examination. The cricketer-turned-politician's counsel HPS Verma had recently said Sidhu had sought a special diet in jail. According to the counsel, Sidhu cannot consume wheat, sugar, 'maida' and some other food items.
