MP: CM orders Rs 1 cr to kin of soldier killed in Tripura terror attack

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed state officials to provide an assistance of Rs one crore to the family of Border Security Force soldier Girjesh Kumar Udde killed in a terror attack in Tripura last month. Chouhan and Union minister Faggan Singh Kulaste met Udde's family members at the latter's native village Chargaon in MP's Mandla district on Sunday and described them as true patriots, a state government official said on Monday. Udde was part of the BSF's 145th battalion's patrolling party that was attacked by terrorists on August 19, causing grievous injuries to him. He was later taken in a chopper to Agartala where he died, the official said. On Sunday, CM Chouhan met the soldier's family members including his wife Radha Devi. The chief minister assured that one of the family members will be given a government job. He directed Mandla Collector Harshika Singh to start the process of giving an assistance of Rs one crore to the martyred soldier's .

Pakistani intruder arrested along International Border in Jammu: BSF

A Pakistani intruder was arrested along the International Border here by the Border Security Force (BSF) in the early hours of Saturday, officials said. BSF personnel picked up on the movement of Mohd Shabad (45), a resident of Sialkot, while he was trying to sneak into the Arnia sector from across the border, they said. They fired a few warning shots and took the man into custody, the officials said, adding that no incriminating material was found in his possession. On August 25, the BSF foiled a major smuggling attempt when its troops seized eight kg of suspected heroin from a Pakistani intruder along the IB in Samba district. The intruder was shot at and injured, but he managed to crawl back to the Pakistani side.

Fisherman shot dead in Assam near Bangladesh border, locals blame BSF

A fisherman was killed along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam's South Salmara district with locals alleging that he was shot by BSF personnel, police said on Thursday. The incident happened on Wednesday night in Gudoli village when Maniruzzaman, the fisherman, was out to lay nets for fishing, they said. The injured fisherman collapsed and died on the way back to his home, South Salmara's Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border) Saifur Ali told reporters. The villagers have alleged that the firing was done by BSF personnel, he said. Police went to the BSF camp for investigations, Ali said. "The BSF, however, has not admitted that the firing was done by their personnel. We are conducting an investigations and exploring all angles," he said. Tension prevailed in the district over the killing and security has been beefed up in the border villages, police said. BSF recovers cache of assault weapons along Indo-Pak border in Punjab

The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered a cache of assault weapons, suspected to have been smuggled from across the border, during a patrol along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab on Tuesday. Three AK series rifles along with six magazines, 2 M3 sub-machine guns with four magazines and two pistols along with two magazines were unearthed by the personnel of the border force from the Ferozepur sector in the early hours, officials said.
