Ready to align with like-minded parties to defeat BJP in 2024 polls: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said his party is willing to forge a viable alternative by aligning with like-minded parties in order to get rid of the "anti-people" BJP government in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and is ready to make any sacrifice required to achieve the goal. In his address at the Congress' 85th plenary session, Kharge also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the "pradhan sevak of Delhi, who gets advertisements printed every day, is serving his own friend". The Congress chief launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led government at the Centre, alleging that "the DNA of those sitting in Delhi is anti-poor" and they are attempting to "destroy" democracy. He also called for a people's movement against the prevailing situation in the country. Hailing party leader Rahul Gandhi for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Kharge said the Kanyakumari-to-Kashmir march united the country with people from all walks of life coming together. The yatra emer

Delhi mayor should accept report on standing committee election: BJP

The BJP on Saturday claimed that three candidates each of the saffron party and the AAP were to be "elected" as members of the MCD's standing committee, based on calculations by technical experts a day prior, and that the mayor should accept this result and announce it. Addressing a press conference here, Virendra Sachdeva, the Delhi BJP's working president, alleged that the re-election called by Mayor Shelly Oberoi to elect six members of the standing committee was "undemocratic" and "unconstitutional". "BJP members will go to the House on Monday. Maybe the mayor will agree to our demands. But we may explore legal avenues if our demands not met," he said. The press conference comes a day after a fight broke out in the MCD House as BJP and AAP members kicked, punched and pushed one another amid shouting after Oberoi declared one vote invalid in the election to the key six-member municipal committee on Friday. During the ruckus, which forced adjournment of the Municipal Corporation

BJP fuelling fire of hatred, targeting minorities, Dalits, women: Sonia

Former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi launched an all-out attack on the BJP government on Saturday, accusing it of "fuelling the fire of hatred" and "viciously targeting minorities, women, Dalits and tribals". She urged the Congress workers to tackle the current regime with vigour and reach out to people to convey the party's message. Addressing the party's 85th plenary session here, Gandhi accused the government of causing economic ruin by favouring a particular businessman, making a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a controversy involving the business empire of industrialist Gautam Adani. She said in this crucial time, every Congress worker bears a special responsibility towards the party and the country. Gandhi said the Congress is not just a political party but it reflects the voices of people of all religions, castes and genders. She asserted that the party will fulfil the dreams of all of them. "This is a particularly challenging time for the Congress and the

Looking forward to align with like-minded parties to defeat BJP: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday said his party looks forward to forging a viable alternative by aligning with like-minded parties to defeat the "anti people" BJP government in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. In his address at the Congress' 85th plenary session, Kharge said the country is facing challenges such as continued assault on constitutional and democratic values, issues of national security at the border with China, all-time high inflation and record unemployment. "In the prevailing difficult circumstances, the Congress is the only party in the country that can provide capable and decisive leadership," he asserted. From 2004 to 2014, the Congress-led alliance with like-minded parties served the people of the country, Kharge said. "We once again look forward to forging a viable alternative by aligning with like-minded parties to defeat the anti-people and undemocratic BJP government," he said. In a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, Kharge said the DNA of

The BJP took a dig at AAP MLA Atishi on Saturday, calling her a "villain" and accusing her of orchestrating a ruckus during elections for the six-member standing committee in the MCD House. Sharing a mock-up film poster with morphed pictures of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs Atishi and Durgesh Pathak alongside Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, the Delhi BJP tweeted in Hindi, "AAP's 'khalnayika' who orchestrated violence and dictatorship in the House."
