"There shall be a stay of proceedings so far as the petitioner is concerned," the bench said. The Karnataka High Court on September 7 had restored a private complaint against Yediyurappa and his family members. The complainant had accused him of taking bribe for awarding government contracts. A Sessions court had earlier dismissed a plea seeking a probe into the allegations of corruption against Yediyurappa as the then Governor had refused to sanction it. The case was registered on Friday following a special court direction to the Lokayukta police to book the senior BJP leader and his kin, including his son B Y Vijayendra, who is the BJP state vice president, his grandson and the then BDA commissioner. The FIR was registered under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal on a complaint by a social activist T J Abraham, alleging that the accused obtained bribes in return for granting BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) contracts. The Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge court on Wednesday ordered an FIR to be registered and investigation taken up on a private complaint alleging corruption by former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa and his family members. The order comes exactly a week after the High Court of Karnataka on September 7 directed the Special Court to hear the complaint of corruption afresh. The lower court had on July 8 dismissed the complaint, as the Governor had refused to give sanction to the complainant, T J Abraham. The HC, however, ruled that the complainant was not the competent authority to seek sanction from the Governor. The complaint is against Yediyurappa, the then chief minister, and his family members, alleging that they obtained bribes in return for granting BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) contracts. Reacting to the order, Yediyurappa said he has full confidence in the judiciary. "There is no truth in any of these allegations. I will come out of all these (case

Senior Congress leader M B Patil on Thursday accused the BJP of using veteran leader B S Yediyurappa for its 'survival,' by appointing him to its highest decision-making body, just ahead of Karnataka assembly polls 2023, and challenged the saffron party to name him as its Chief Minister face instead. Noting that Yediyurappa was forced to step down as the Chief Minister citing his age as the reason, the state Congress' campaign committee chairman, who is also considered as the party's Lingayat face, questioned as to whether his age is not a factor, when he is now inducted into the BJP's Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee. He rejected contention that Yediyurappa's induction into the BJP's top body affected Congress' prospects to attract Lingayat votes and said the community fully understands the ruling party's game of utilising the Lingayat strongman's services, only for the sake of elections. Lingayat, a dominant community, forms the major vote bank of the BJP. Both

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, K Laxman, Sudha Sadav and Satyanarayan Jatiya are the other new members of the BJP's apex organisational body -- an attempt by the party to make the parliamentary board more socially and regionally representative. Lalpura will be the first Sikh to have a seat in the BJP parliamentary board as a person from a minority community. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh and BJP president J P Nadda are among its members. The party also rejigged its Central Election Committee and included former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Om Mathur and its women wing chief Vanathi Srinivasan. Yediyurappa also said that his son and party's state vice-president B Y Vijayendra will contest the 2023 assembly polls from Shikaripura. The former chief minister's announcement seems to indicate the end of his electoral politics. "He never retires. Yediyurappa has never retired. In the next elections, his strength and guidance will be there," Bommai told reporters when asked under whose leadership the party will fight the next polls in the absence of Yediyurappa. Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Monday accused Union Minister Prahlad Joshi of conspiring against BS Yediyurappa and removing him from the Chief Minister's chair
With less than a year for the assembly elections, some BJP leaders have sought to project party strongman B S Yediyurappa's son B Y Vijayendra as the future Chief Minister. Both sought to play it down on Wednesday. Yediyurappa, a former Chief Minister, however, said Vijayedra, who is currently the party Vice President, will contest the 2023 assembly polls. "I have worked and travelled across the state as party Yuva Morcha General Secretary, and now when the party has given me the responsibility of Vice President, I'm successfully performing those duties too. I will abide and work according to the party's decision," Vijayendra told reporters in Hassan. In Vijayapura, Yediyurappa said neither he nor his son have made any such statements, and would not like to react to comments made by someone close to Vijayendra. The special court that deals exclusively with criminal cases related to Legislators in Karnataka exempted his appearance on medical grounds and adjourned the case to June 17. Yediyurappa will have to appear in person on the next date of hearing. The private complaint was filed in 2013 by Vasudeva Reddy, who alleged that Yediyurappa who was Deputy Chief Minister in 2006 had illegally denotified several parcels of lands in Whitefield and Electronics city in Bengaluru. Yediyurappa informed the court that he suffered from diabetes and hypertension and was being treated for it. For the last few days he was sufferi
