Electronics maker Elista India will invest Rs 250 crore to set up a manufacturing plant in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, in five years, which will help the company meet the domestic and exports markets demand, Chairman and Managing Director Saket Gaurav said. The investment for the new plant would be funded equally from equities and debts, as the company is in talks with some financial institutions, said Gaurav. "We plan to put our investment in a phased manner. Initially, we will be investing around Rs 50 crore, which will produce almost one million units of smart TVs and monitors," he said, adding, "in five years, we will invest almost Rs 250 crore in this facility." The company has plans to get into the production of home appliances like refrigerators, washing machines and dishwashers from this facility, said Gaurav, adding that it would create around 500 jobs. As many as 9.8 lakh students pursuing ITI, polytechnic, degree, engineering, medicine and other professional courses will benefit from the Jagananna Vidya Deevena scheme for the quarter October to December, 2022. Under the scheme, the fee of students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes, minorities, Kapus, economically backward classes and persons with disabilities (PwD) categories will be reimbursed. Keeping its interests in mind ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for 2024, the Andhra Pradesh government has allocated the lion's share of the state Budget -- more than Rs 54,000 crore of the total Rs 2,79,279 crore -- to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, targeting potential voter segments such as pensioners, farmers, students and women. Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath tabled the 2023-24 Budget in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. Reacting to Reddy's resignation, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore on Sunday said that those who got everything from the party and finished the Andhra Pradesh Congress now leave for the BJP. Reddy was the last chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. In a letter dated March 11 and addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Reddy wrote, "Please accept this letter as my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress." Reddy had earlier resigned from the Congress in 2014 over the then UPA government's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and carve out Telangana. The Andhra Pradesh government will install as many as 18 lakh smart meters on farm electric motors within a year, including spending Rs 4,000 core to procure allied material, said an official. The state will follow the guidelines issued by the Central Government and Central Electricity Authority (CEA), even as these smart meters are aimed at arresting power theft among several other benefits, he said. The official highlighted that farmers do not have any doubts over them and asserted that the government has received their stamp of approval. "Nearly 16.5 lakh farmers have extended support to smart meters and the government will bear the cost of installing them," K Vijayanand, special chief secretary, Energy Department, said in a statement on Tuesday night. Andhra Pradesh has garnered investment pledges worth Rs 13,05,663 lakh crore with a potential to create 6,03,223 jobs during the two-day Global Investors Summit (GIS), said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday. Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, he said 352 agreements were signed in 20 sectors, out of which the energy sector stood out through 40 deals and pledges worth Rs 8.84 lakh crore with a job creation potential of 1.9 lakh, he said. "In the IT & ITES sector, 56 MoUs were signed, amounting to Rs 25,587 crore of investments and will generate employment for 1,04,442 people. Drug maker Hetero Group will be investing Rs 1,000 crore to expand its pharmaceutical and specialist business in Andhra Pradesh, its Managaing Director Vamsi Krishna Bandi said on Saturday. Speaking at Global Investors Summit 2023 here, he said post-Covid pandemic, more countries are looking at India as a partner of choice in pharmaceutical sector, and Andhra Pradesh is ideally placed to take advantage because of a well-established ecosystem.
