Airlines must look at common services facility to cut costs: Suresh Prabhu

As Indian airlines seek to expand their fleet, former Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has said the carriers should look at having a common services facility within the country for maintenance, repair and overhaul works as that will help reduce costs. With Air India placing orders for new aircraft after more than 17 years, he also said the airline should look at flying more on the profitable Gulf routes as well as restoring overseas "historical connections" which it used to operate earlier. Prabhu served as the Civil Aviation Minister from March 2018 to May 2019 and during his tenure also efforts were made to turnaround the loss-making Air India, which was finally taken over by the Tata Group in January 2022 under the government's disinvestment programme. "We should work on having international aviation hubs in India as well as look at having some sort of a common aviation services facility that can be shared by all airlines. Such a facility will help in reducing costs as

UK regional airline Flybe slumps into bankruptcy for second time in 3 years

Struggling UK regional airline Flybe collapsed for the second time in three years Saturday, putting jobs on the line and leaving passengers stranded. The airline initially slumped into bankruptcy in March 2020, shedding 2,400 jobs, as coronavirus restrictions decimated the travel industry. It relaunched in April last year, flying many of the same routes out of Belfast, Birmingham and London Heathrow. In a statement, the grounded flyer said it had called in bankruptcy accountants again, and warned passengers not to travel to airports as all flights were now cancelled, including its international routes from Switzerland and the Netherlands. The UK's Civil Aviation Authority said passengers should make their own alternative travel arrangements via other airlines, rail or coach operators, leaving customers with lengthy and potentially expensive trips to get home. CAA consumer director Paul Smith said: It is always sad to see an airline enter administration and we know that Flybe's ...

Urination case: AICCA seeks rollback of derostering of Air India crew

Cabin crew body, All India's Cabin Crew Association (AICCA), on Monday demanded that the airline should roll back derostering of the crew that operated the New York- Delhi flight where a male passenger allegedly urinated on a female co-passenger last November. Earlier this month, Air India issued show cause notices to the Pilot-in-Command and four crew members of the flight and derostered them pending investigation. For various violations related to the urination incident onboard the flight on November 26, 2022, aviation regulator DGCA has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Air India, Rs 3 lakh fine on the airline's director of inflight services and also suspended the pilot-in-command's licence for three months. Against this backdrop, the All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) has demanded that the crew concerned should be rostered for duty again. "The AICCA has perused the DGCA press note on the Al-102 (26/11/22) and noted with deep regret the unusually harsh punishmen
