Jio extends 5G coverage to 27 more cities, now covers 331 cities across India

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTU) Reliance Jio, the country's largest telecom operator, on Wednesday announced the launch of its 5G services in 27 more cities of 13 states and union territories to extend its network of ultra high-speed telephony to 331 cities across India.

Jio True 5G is now available in 27 additional cities in states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal, the company said in a statement.

Starting March 8, 2023, Jio users in these 27 cities will be invited to the Jio Welcome Offer, to experience unlimited data at up to 1 Gbps speeds, at no additional cost, it said.

Its billionaire chairman Mukesh Ambani had previously announced that Jio's 5G services will cover the entire country by the end of 2023.

Sikkim to get 5G services before Independence-Day: Union Minister Vaishnaw

Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday said Sikkim will get 5G services before Independence Day this year. Addressing a function here after releasing a postal cover titled 'Go Green, Go Organic', the Electronics and Information Technology Minister said the Centre has proposed to cover all villages in the country with 4G and 5G services over the next 18-24 months and work was already in progress. "Sikkim will get 5G services before August 15 this year," he said. Vaishnaw said the Sevoke-Rangpo railway project was underway at a good pace and the development of Sikkim will get a fillip with the commissioning of the project. "The Centre may consider extending the railway network beyond Rangpo and it was working on three alignments, one of which will be finalised in consultation with the state government in the future," he said. The Union minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was personally taking a deep interest in the ongoing infrastructural projects in northeastern states.

Telecom operator Airtel reaches 1 mn customer mark on 5G network in Mumbai

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Thursday announced that it has surpassed the 1 million 5G user mark on its network in Mumbai. Airtel recently crossed the 10 million unique customer mark on its 5G network nationally. The Sunil Mittal-led telco said it is well poised to cover every town and key rural areas with Airtel 5G services by end of March 2024. The Airtel statement said it had surpasses 1 million customer mark on its 5G network in Mumbai. "Airtel was the first to roll-out 5G in the country and Mumbai was one among the first 8 cities to get ultra fast Airtel 5G Plus. Today, Airtel's 5G services is available in over 140 cities across the length and breadth of the country," it said. Gehlot launches 5G in Rajasthan, cautions agencies on cyber fraudsters

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday launched 5G internet service in the state and urged the country's investigative agencies to get well-trained in dealing problems caused by cyber fraudsters. Speaking at an event during which 5G service was launched in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur cities of Rajasthan, Gehlot raised concerns over rising cyber frauds and the challenges internet has posed in the recent times. "There are concerns over rising cyber frauds and the challenges internet has posed. Cyber fraudsters have much expertise than the investigative agencies and there is a need to get trained to deal with the cyber crimes," Gehlot said. During the event, Gehlot also cautioned to use internet cautiously. Jio 5G now compatible with iPhone 12, newer models with latest iOS update

Reliance Jio 5G services are now accessible on Apple iPhone 12 and newer models after consumers install the latest iOS update version 16.2. The company has started sending notifications to customers who are using iPhone to upgrade their device to access the 5G service. "Your iPhone is Jio True 5G ready.
