Electric two-wheeler maker e-Sprinto on Wednesday said it is looking to roll out four new high-speed scooters this year. Among the four new e-scooters, including Sprinto HS, one will cater to the B2B sector while the remaining three will be for B2C segment, the company said in a statement. The startup currently has a streamlined product portfolio in the low-speed category, consisting of e-Sprinto and e-Sprinto BB models of electric scooter. The company said its forthcoming range of scooters will cater to both the business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) segments, offering a diverse range of features and capabilities. "We are delighted to reveal our highly anticipated range of high-speed scooters that we are confident will establish a new industry benchmark. We firmly believe that our new line of scooters will deliver an exceptional riding experience, exceeding our customers' expectations," Atul Gupta, Co-founder and Director of e-Sprinto, said.
Hero MotoCorp on Wednesday said it will increase prices of its model range by around 2 per cent from next month in order to offset the impact of rise in production cost in order to conform to stricter emission norms. The company will make an upward revision in the ex-showroom prices of its select motorcycles and scooters, effective from April 1, 2023, the country's leading two-wheeler maker said in a statement. The price revision will be around 2 per cent and the exact quantum of increase will vary by specific models and markets, it added. The price revision has been necessitated mainly due to cost increases on account of OBD 2 (on-board diagnostics) transition, the company said. Engineering company Greaves Cotton on Wednesday unveiled its range of electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicles at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023. The company at the event unveiled three two-wheelers under Ampere brand series -- Ampere Primus, Ampere NXG and a multi-utility scooter Ampere NXU which can be also used for deliveries. In the commercial three-wheeler segment, the company unveiled an electric passenger vehicle Greaves ELP, cargo EV Greaves ELC and a futuristic cargo concept Greaves Aero Vision. Greaves Electric Mobility Private Ltd, CEO and Executive Director, Sanjay Behl said Ampere Primus will be available during the ongoing quarter, while rest of the vehicles will be made available during the course of next financial year. "Ampere Primus is now open for bookings across India. Rest of the vehicles will be launched in the next financial year," Behl said. Two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Monday reported a marginal decline in total sales at 3,94,179 units for December 2022. The company had sold 3,94,773 units in the same month a year ago, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement. Domestic sales were higher by 1.83 per cent at 3,81,365 units as against 3,74,485 units in December 2021. Exports were, however, lower at 12,814 units as compared to 20,288 units in the year-ago month, the company said. Total motorcycle sales in December 2022 stood at 3,56,749 units as against 3,76,862 units in the same month a year ago. On the other hand, scooter sales were higher at 37,430 units as compared to 17,911 units in December 2021. In the three quarters of financial year 2022-23, the company said it sold more than 40.58 lakh units, a rise of 8 per cent as compared to the year-ago period.
Electric two-wheeler sales could miss the target of 10 lakh units in fiscal 2022-23 by 20 per cent, mainly due to withholding of around Rs 1,100 crore subsidy by the government, according to industry body SMEV. In 2022, sales of electric two-wheelers stood at around 6 lakh units, with three major electric two-wheeler (E2W) makers -- Hero Electric, Ola and Okinawa -- crossing the 1 lakh annual sales mark for the first time, the Society Of Manufacturers Of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) said. These original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) dominated the E2W market, controlling over 50 per cent of the total market share, and emerged as the top players in the category. Though the E2W industry performance in the calendar year 2022 looks positive with sales of around 6 lakh units, "the volumes are not keeping up with the projections made by Niti Aayog and many other research agencies", SMEV said.
