The road transport and highways sector has the maximum number of delayed projects at 358, followed by railways at 111 and the petroleum sector at 87, showed a government report. In the road transport and highways sector, 358 out of 769 projects are delayed. In railways, out of 173 projects, 111 are delayed, while in the petroleum sector, 87 out of 154 projects are running behind schedule, as per the latest flash report on infrastructure projects for November 2022. The Infrastructure and Project Monitoring Division (IPMD) is mandated to monitor central sector infrastructure projects costing Rs 150 crore and above based on the information provided on the Online Computerised Monitoring System (OCMS) by the project implementing agencies. The Andhra Pradesh government is all set to enhance the quarterly tax on transport vehicles to raise an additional revenue of Rs 200 crore. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, at a recent meeting on resource mobilisation, gave the clearance to the quarterly tax hike proposal, official sources said here. Accordingly, the Transport Department prepared the plan to enhance the quarterly tax by 20-25 per cent on transport vehicles like taxis, trucks and buses, the sources said. In December last year, the state government increased the life tax on two- and four-wheelers and also the green tax to generate an extra revenue of Rs 400 crore per year. The life tax hike resulted in a 38.88 per cent jump in revenue to Rs 1,215.51 crore in the first six months of the 2022-23 financial year, as against Rs 875.20 crore in the corresponding period last year. The Maharashtra transport department has issued a draft notification to hike fees for VIP numbers for new vehicles, an official said on Friday. As per the draft notification, the number '0001' will have a proposed fee of Rs 5 lakh, up from Rs 3 lakh now for four-wheelers, while it will be Rs 1 lakh for two and three-wheelers instead of the present Rs 50,000, he said. Besides this, the 'three time basic fees' will be Rs 15 lakh for four or more wheeled vehicles and Rs 3 lakh for two and three wheeled vehicles if the '0001' registration number is unavailable in an ongoing series for that particular type of vehicle and it needs to be given from another series as per the rules, he added. The Delhi transport department has processed nearly 22 lakh online applications since the launch of its faceless services over a year ago, officials said on Saturday. Transport-related services were moved to the faceless mode to provide an opportunity to citizens to avail them from the comfort of their homes, they said. It was launched on August 11 last year following a trial that began on February 19. As many as 45 services are available on the faceless mode. Since the start of trial, nearly 22 lakhs applications have been processed by the transport department. These include approximately 7.5 lakh applications for registration certificate and permit related services, 6 lakh applications for driving license related services, 3.5 lakh applications for e-learning licence services and nearly 4.6 lakh registration certifications that have been issued at dealer's end. Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that he wants to introduce skybuses on select stretches of Delhi and Haryana to reduce traffic and pollution. Gadkari further said that climate agenda is the highest priority for the government as economic growth with pollution is not a good strategy. "I want to start skybuses (mass transit service) from Dhaula Kuan to Manesar and later extend it to Sohna to reduce traffic and pollution," he said, without providing more details. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday ordered the suspension of a Regional Transport Officer here for failing to reach office on time. Dhami issued the orders for the suspension of Dinesh Chandra Pathoi during a surprise inspection of the Regional Transport Office at Rajpur Road here. During the visit, the chief minister found Pathoi absent along with 80 percent of the staff despite people standing in queue to get their vehicle related issues resolved. He was visibly unhappy to find Pathoi absent from office during duty hours. Dhami had recently issued orders for strict implementation of the biometric system of attendance in government offices to ensure that officials come to office on time.
