Hyundai Motor India on Wednesday said it will introduce an all-new sports utility vehicle in the country. The company currently sells models like Venue, Creta, Alcazar and Tucson in the sports utility segment in the domestic market. "Hyundai has been one of the forerunners to induce new mobility experiences and we are all set to once again excite customers with an all-new SUV that is coming soon to take you places," Hyundai Motor India COO Tarun Garg said in a statement. The company, however, did not share any details about the engine, or size of the vehicle. Built to bring out the explorer, this all-new SUV will evoke unfiltered experiences with advanced technology, superior safety and strong performance, the automaker said without divulging details. The sports utility vehicle segment has emerged as the fastest growing segment in the domestic passenger vehicle segment.
JK Tyre Industries is looking to expand its retail network across the country by up to 20 per cent over the next 12-18 months, a top company official said on Monday. The company, which on Monday expanded its retail presence in North India by opening six outlets, is also looking to bolster presence in the fast-growing sports utility vehicle and electric vehicle verticals. "We currently have around 650 brand shops across the country. Over the next 12-18 months we expect a 15-20 per cent addition in these outlets as we look to go nearer to the customer," JK Tyre and Industries President (India) Anuj Kathuria told PTI here in an interaction. The company on Monday launched six new brand shops spread across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan as part of its plans to improve presence especially in smaller towns and rural areas. Maruti Suzuki expects substantial increase in its market share in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment this fiscal with the new Brezza and Grand Vitara receiving robust response, according to a senior company official. The auto major also plans to introduce more models in the SUV segment in the remaining part of the financial year. "In July we were at 7.1 per cent (market share) in the SUV segment...it increased to 10.8 per cent in August, 13.01 per cent in September and 14.4 per cent in October. So it is showing an increasing trend," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Senior Executive Officer Marketing & Sales Shashank Srivastava told PTI in an interaction. At least two persons were killed and five others seriously injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed into a tree along the Eastern Express Highway in suburban Vikhroli in the wee hours of Thursday, police said. The accident took place around 12.30 am near Kanjurmarg bus stop, an official said. "A speeding SUV rammed into a road-side peepal tree, in which two persons - its driver and passenger - were killed, while five others sustained serious injuries," he said. After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a civic-run hospital, he said, adding that the process to register a first information report (FIR) was on.
