National Health Mission, Assam, has taken a series of measures, including visits by the state team to all 34 districts, for improving maternal and child health. The team stays in the district for three days to review maternal, and newborn deaths and other health-related aspects, NHM mission director Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya told a review meeting. The measures also include organising a monthly consultation-cum-review conclave in the districts, and special health camps. The NHM mission director said that the state has the capability to reduce maternal and newborn deaths if a targeted approach is adopted. The maternal death cases have come down to 289 in the AprilSeptember period of 2022-23 as against 384 during the corresponding period in 2021-22. The number of child deaths has also declined from 3,842 in 2021-22 (April-September) to 3,523 in 2022-23. Chairing a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the National Digital Health Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it will bring ease of living for citizens as they can avail a large number of health services via it. The PMO said Modi directed that steps be expedited to expand operations under the NDHM, noting that the platform's utility to the citizens will be visible only by way of enabling them across the country to avail of services like tele-consultation with a doctor, availing services of a lab, transferring test reports or health records digitally to the doctor and paying digitally. He asked the National Health Authority, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Electronics & IT to coordinate efforts in this direction. Modi had announced the launch of NDHM during his Independence Day address in 2020. Online pharmacies on Thursday said they have requested the government to notify the final e-pharmacy rules. A vibrant e-pharmacy remains a vital cog in the implementation of the National Digital Health Mission, association of Indian internet pharmacies Digital Health Platforms said in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "It is our sincere request that the government notify the final e-pharmacy rules," the association added. Draft e-Pharmacy Rules are in addition to, and not in substitution of, the existing legal framework of the IT act and DC (Drugs and Cosmetics) Act and Rules, which the existing e-pharmacies are fully compliant with, the letter said. Therefore, the registration of e-pharmacies under the proposed Draft Rules is over and above the existing relevant Act and Rules, it added. "A vibrant e-Pharmacy sector continues to be a key element in successfully implementing the National Digital Health Mission, and governmental support and motivation to the sector is critic
