Mumbai Airport on Tuesday said both its runways will remain temporarily closed for operations for five hours on May 2 as part of the facility's monsoon contingency plan. The scheduled temporary runway closure is an annual exercise and a contingency plan on the same will help maintain operational continuity and ensure passengers' safety, the private airport operator said in a statement. The exercise involves specialists in engineering and airside teams inspecting the runway surface for micro-texture and macro texture wear and tear that may have occurred due to day-to-day operations and help strengthen the airside strip, it said. Business conglomerate GVK Group on Wednesday categorically said there was no "extraneous pressure" from anyone to sell its stake in Mumbai airport as alleged by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The company's comments came a day after Gandhi alleged in Lok Sabha that "Mumbai airport, was taken away from GVK using agencies such as the CBI and the ED, and was given to Adani by the Government of India". Adani Group-owned Mumbai Airport has said it is looking to deploy more than 100 electric vehicles at the facility by FY24 to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable transportation. As part of the plan, the airport operator on Wednesday rolled out 45 EVs at the facility, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said in a statement. The private airport operator also said it intends to replace all its ICE-powered vehicles with EVs as part of its Operational Net Zero mission by 2029. In addition to the 45 EVs being introduced in January, the airport is also exploring the deployment of 60 more EVs in the next fiscal year, including ambulances, forward command posts, security and airside operations and maintenance utility vehicles, it said. The remaining vehicles will be replaced in a phased-wise manner, the private airport operator added. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has prepared a pool of more than 100 personnel to man additional security counters expected to be handed over to it for easing the ongoing congestion at large airports of Delhi and Mumbai, official sources said Wednesday. The central paramilitary, designated as the national aviation security force, has informed airport operators, airlines and the Union civil aviation ministry that while it can bring on board some more security personnel there can be "no compromise on security protocols and standard operating procedures followed by it for regular frisking of passengers and scanning of cabin baggage apart from fliers required to undergo extensive search due to specific profiling." Mumbai International Airport said on Friday it has set up six fast Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at the facility as part of its plan to become carbon neutral. These public charging stations, installed at Terminal-1 and Terminal-2 will cater to both the passengers as well as the guests visiting the CSMIA, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said in a statement. It also said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Ltd (CSMIA) has commissioned these charging facilities at the multi-level car parking at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 as well as on the airside. For privately owned EVs, commuters using the charging facility in the two parking areas would be billed only for charging sessions, it added.

The customs has seized USD 4,97,000, worth Rs 4.1 crore, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, an official said on Thursday. After receiving a tip-off, the Air Intelligence Unit of Airport Customs intercepted three members of a family who were about to fly to Dubai on Wednesday morning, he said. The city airport on Saturday conducted a mock drill along with multiple internal and external holders to assess its security preparedness at the facility, according to a statement.
