The AIIMS-Delhi administration has suspended a senior stores officer after several irregularities were found in the purchase of medical goods. In an order issued on March 10 by AIIMS Director M Srinivas, senior stores officer Rakesh Sharma has been asked to remain in the New Delhi headquarters and not leave without obtaining prior permission of the competent authority. "A disciplinary proceeding is contemplated against Rakesh Sharma...therefore,...(he is placed) under suspension with immediate effect," the order said. According to sources, Sharma had been indicted in the past as well. They alleged that irregularities have been observed in the purchase of medical goods for the general store of Dr RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and there has been corruption of around Rs 10 crore. A combination of symptom and viral rebound after untreated COVID-19 infection is rare, occurring in only three per cent of study participants, an analysis of a COVID-19 trial has found. Widespread use of nirmatrelvir -- a recommended treatment for outpatients with mild to moderate COVID-19 -- has been accompanied by reports of worsening symptoms and virologic rebound after treatment completion, the researchers said. Virologic rebound has also been reported in persons who did not receive nirmatrelvir therapy, they said. However, studies that can define the frequencies of symptom and viral rebound during the natural course of COVID-19 are lacking. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has advised Indian students not to enrol themselves in medical colleges in Pakistan. The public notice issued by the NMC came days after the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) through a joint advisory urged Indian students not to enrol themselves in any college or educational institution in Pakistan, failing which they will not be eligible to find a job or pursue higher education in this country.
