India Grid Trust on Wednesday said it has commissioned its first battery energy storage system (BESS) project coupled with its solar panels at the Dhule substation in Maharashtra. The project will meet the substation's auxiliary consumption requirement, a company statement said. It will not only "reduce our emissions but also act as a prototype for expanding our presence in energy transition opportunities in the sector," it stated. This facility will also act as a test bed for augmenting IndiGrid's capabilities to participate in energy transition opportunities in solar and BESS space, Chief Executive Officer, Harsh Shah said. "As operations at this project stabilize, we look forward to replicating similar systems across our other substations and reduce emissions of our operations," he added. IndiGrid is the first infrastructure investment trust in the Indian power sector. It owns 17 power projects, consisting of 46 transmission lines with more than 8,416 ckms (circuit kilometers)
Electric vehicle maker Wardwizard Innovations and Mobility has commenced operations of its in-house lithium-ion battery assembly line with a capacity of 1 GWh, the company said on Friday. The company has accomplished the target of rolling out the first batch of assembled battery packs recently from this unit, it said. Wardwizard Innovations and Mobility in May last year announced its plan to set up a Lithium-ion cells manufacturing facility in Gujarat. Aiming to strengthen the battery infrastructure in India, the company also had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Singapore-based renewable energy management consulting firm, Sunkonnect. Storage battery maker and distributor Sunlit Power has collaborated with Lucas TVS under which it will supply 50,000 electric vehicle motors and controllers manufactured by TVS group company to various industries, a release said on Monday. It will include motors with 1kw-15kw capacity for various applications including those for two-wheelers, high-speed passenger autos, and pick-up vans, Sunlit Power, which manufactures ARENQ brand of batteries, said in a statement. Hero Electric on Monday said it has entered into a long-term partnership with Maxwell Energy Systems for the supply of advanced battery management systems. Under the partnership, Maxwell will supply more than 10 lakh units of its battery management systems (BMS) over the next three years to Hero Electric, the company said in a statement. Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill said the BMS solution from Maxwell will help the company provide safe and performance-oriented EVs to its customers. Venture debt fund Stride Ventures on Thursday said it has invested Rs 75 crore in battery swapping network provider Battery Smart. Battery Smart, which provides swapping networks for electric two and three-wheelers, will use the fund to add more batteries to its network and expand to new cities across India, the company said in a statement. Hyundai Motor India on Thursday said it will introduce its global dedicated battery electric vehicle platform in the country with its upcoming model Ioniq 5, slated to debut in the Auto Expo in January next year. Spanish carmaker SEAT said on Wednesday that it plans to build Spain's first electric car battery plant as part of a 10-billion-euro investment in the country's electric car initiative. The Spanish government said last year that it would convert the country's car manufacturing industry, the second-largest in Europe, with funds from the European Union's post-pandemic recovery plan. SEAT, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, plans to build the battery plant in Sagunto, a town near the eastern city of Valencia. The company said the Volkswagen Group would also electrify SEAT's existing car plants in the northern city of Pamplona and Martorell, a town near Barcelona.
