The Telugu Desam Party held the Andhra Pradesh government responsible for the stampede incident in Guntur city on Sunday night that left three women dead and seven others injured, even as party president N Chandrababu Naidu expressed "profound shock and grief" over the tragedy. Naidu announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs five lakh each to the kin of the deceased while the state government announced a relief of Rs two lakh each. Coronavirus pandemic is completely under control in Andhra Pradesh with only 267 people exhibiting symptoms out of the total 15,096 people screened, state Health Minister Vidadala Rajini said. Scientists at the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) in Hyderabad have found the presence of Light Rare Earth Elements (REE), key components in many electronic devices and various industrial applications, including medical technology, aerospace and defence, in Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The Light Rare Earth Element minerals include Lanthanum, Cerium, Praseodymium, Neodymium, Yttrium, Hafnium, Tantalum, Niobium, Zirconium, and Scandium. "We found strong anomalous (enriched) Light Rare Earth Elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Y, Nb and Ta) in whole rock analyses, confirming the minerals hosting these REE," senior principal scientist in NGRI Dr P V Sunder Raju told PTI. More than 6 lakh students will appear for the Andhra Pradesh SSC board examinations, scheduled from April 3 to 18. The exams will be conducted in seven regional languages, which are Telugu, English, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu and Odia, said an official on Friday. Out of the total number of candidates registered for the examinations, 3.1 lakh are boys and 2.97 lakh girls while Anantapuram, Kurnool and Prakasam districts are the districts with the highest number of candidates whereas Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitaramaraju and Bapatla are sending the lowest numbers. The exams will be held in as many as 3,349 centres in the state. Besides 156 flying squads, 682 sitting squads have also been arranged to check malpractices while 104 examination centres have been equipped with CCTV cameras.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on his second visit to Delhi within a fortnight, and took up several pending demands, including one to raise the State's credit limit. The Chief Minister requested both Shah and Sitharaman in separate meetings to raise the credit limit from Rs 17,923 crore to the earlier limit of Rs 42,472 crore, which he said was slashed for no fault of the southern State in 2021-22, a statement on Thursday said. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday disbursed Rs 6,419 crore under the third tranche of YSR Asara scheme, benefiting as many as 74.94 lakh women. A large amount of explosives suspected to have been dumped by the Maoists along the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha has been seized, police said. Acting on a tip-off, police seized 50 kg of explosive codex wire, 100 detonators and 15 radio sets in Lamataput area in Koraput district, Superintendent of Police Avinav Sonkar said. He said the explosives are suspected to have been dumped by the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit for future use against security forces.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday incorporated an additional nutrient supplement, ragi malt drink, into the menu of government school students, at a cost of Rs 86 crore. With this new addition into the menu of the existing Jagananna Goru Mudda scheme, more than 37.6 lakh students studying in as many as 44,392 government and aided schools will reap the nutritional benefits of getting iron and calcium through their school meals. Making the announcement, Reddy said, "These practices are to make the Gorumudda even better. This food provides useful iron and calcium which helps the growth of children." Amplus Solar on Tuesday said it aims to set up 7.5 KPTA-distributed green hydrogen plants in Andhra Pradesh with an estimated investment of Rs 1,500 crore. To materialise its plans, the company has also entered into an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up various distributed green hydrogen plants in the state, Amplus Solar said in a statement. The company aims to set up 7.5 KPTA (kilo tonne per annum)-distributed green hydrogen plants for industrial consumption in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
