Stock market LIVE updates: Domestic markets were higher in Wednesday's intra-day trade as investors await the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision later today.

Key indices Nifty50 climbed over 50 points to trade near 17,150 level, whereas the S&P BSE Sensex advanced over 150 points to around 58,200 level.

The strength spilled across broader markets too, as Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices gained up to 0.3 per cent. Volatility gauge, India VIX, meanwhile, slipped over 2 per cent.

All sectors traded in a positive territory, with Nifty Metal, and Nifty PSU Bank indices gaining the most - over 1 per cent each. While HDFC Life, and SBI Life were the top gainers in the Nifty50 index, Asian Paints, and Coal India were the top laggards.

Among individual stocks, Hindustan Zinc surged 5 per cent after the company decided to pay Rs 10,990 crore ($1.3 billion) to its shareholders, a fourth dividend this year.

The combined market-capitalisation (market-cap) of all listed Adani group firms has plunged nearly Rs 7.11 trillion since January 24 when the Hindenburg report was made public.

Stung by the Hindenburg Research report in January 2023 that alleged the Adani group had engaged in brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme, improper use of offshore tax havens, and flagged concerns about the group's high debt, Gautam Adani lost $28 billion in wealth, or Rs 3,000 crore a week in 2022-2023, suggests M3M Hurun Global Rich List report.

ADP merger likely to give wings to GMR Airports Infrastructure stock

The GMR Group and its joint venture (JV) partner -- the French Groupe Aeroports de Paris (ADP) -- will merge their unlisted company, GMR Airports (GAL) into the listed GMR Airports Infrastructure (GIL), alongside an infusion of €331 million (Rs 2,900 crore) via the foreign currency convertible bond (FCCB) route by ADP. While the merger is subject to regulatory clearance and shareholder approval, it could take place in the early part of the 2024 calendar year.
