India reported a decrease of 563 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 143,091. The country is twenty-seventh among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On July 20, it added 20,557 cases to take its total caseload to 43,803,619. And, with 2,603 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 528,388, or 1.20 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 2,604,797 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on July 19, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 2,006,124,684. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 43,132,140 — or 98.47 per cent of the total caseload — with 18,517 new cured cases being reported on July 20.

  • The five states with the most active cases are West Bengal (28969), Kerala (22592), Tamil Nadu (16829), Maharashtra (14789), and Karnataka (7617).
  • The five states with the highest fatalities are Maharashtra (148032), Kerala (70295), Karnataka (40131), Tamil Nadu (38030), and Delhi (26296).
