RIL chairman may give details of 5G rollout, new energy plans at 45th AGM

May defer offering specific timelines on listing of retail and telecom businesses; clarity on succession planning could come later

Reliance Industries (RIL) will hold its  forty-fifth annual general meeting (AGM) today at 2 pm. The conglomerate, especially in the past two years, has made a slew of major announcements in the meeting.This will be the third successive AGM to be held virtually. Prior to Covid-19, RIL held its AGMs at Birla Matoshri auditorium.

RIL will broadcast its shareholder meeting simultaneously on a virtual reality platform as well as on five social media platforms. It will become one of the first firms globally to conduct its AGM simultaneously on a virtual reality platform, while also live broadcasting it on social media platforms.

What is expected

A slew of announcements in 5G, new energy and way forward for retail, telecom businesses; oil-to-chemicals demerger likely on the agenda and unveiling of JioPhone 5G.

Next Gen to take the centrestage

In this year's AGM, the Ambani children may demonstrate some of the key features of the 5G services at the meeting, just as they’ve showcased new telecoms products in the past.

Green energy is the next big thing for Reliance. RIL is also building a Giga complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The conglomerate has committed to a net carbon zero emission goal by 2035
