Quinton de Kock is a South African cricketer, who plays the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians. He is the captain of the South Africa limited overs (T20s and ODIs) side. In IPL he has also represented Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Mumbai Indians (MI). He opens the batting in One Day Internationals and T20 cricket. However, he primarily bats in the middle order in Test cricket. An opening batsman and wicket-keeper, de Kock made his domestic debut for the Highveld Lions during the 2012/2013 season.
IPL career
De Kock was first bought by SRH for the 2013 IPL season but failed to live up to the expectations of the Hyderabad-based franchise, as he scored just six runs in three matches. In the next season (2014), he was bought by then Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for Rs 3.5 crore and represented the franchise for four years. In IPL 2018 auctions, he was bagged by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs 2.8 crore, however, he did not fit into the scheme of things for RCB after the season. In the IPL 2019 auction, Mumbai Indians bagged him for Rs 2.8 crore and he played some crucial knocks at the top of the batting order, helping MI win the title. Overall, he has accumulated 1,456 runs in 50 matches at an average of 30.33 and a strike rate of 131.28. He has scored 10 half-centuries and one century in IPL with the highest individual score of 108.
ODI career
The South African southpaw made his ODI debut against New Zealand at Boland Park on January 19, 2013, scoring 18 runs in 34 balls while batting lower down the order. In 118 ODIs, he has scored 5,094 runs at an average of 45.48 and a strike rate of 94.95, including 25 half-centuries and 15 hundreds. He took 160 catches and made eight stumpings.
T20 career
The Proteas opener made his T20 International debut against New Zealand at Kingsmead on December 21, 2012. He has accumulated 1,018 runs in 38 matches at an average of 30.85 and a strike rate of 129.35. He took 36 catches and made 10 stumpings.
Test career
Quinton de Kock made his Test debut against Australia at St George’s Park on February 20, 2014. He scored 2,934 runs in 47 matches at an average of 39.12 and struck 21 fifties and five centuries. He took 191 catches and made 11 stumpings.
