Maharashtra is now left with 14,092 active cases after 2,565 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries so far to 78,75,009, the report said.

With 731 patients recovering from the respiratory illness in the last 24 hours, their cumulative count rose to 12,32,544, it said.

The variant, known as BA.5, is an offshoot of the omicron strain that emerged late last year, and it's believed to be responsible for the vast majority of coronavirus cases in the country.
With this, the national capital's COVID-19 infection tally climbed to 19,47,763 and the death toll to 26,299, the latest bulletin stated.
The department in its daily COVID bulletin said 1,096 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,45,647 till date. Active cases stood at 8,848.
Ahmedabad district reported the highest number of 311 cases in the day in the state, followed by Vadodara with 119 cases, Mehsana 66, and Gandhinagar and Surat with 45 cases each, among others.

Of the 9,488 beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi hospitals, only 118 were occupied as on Tuesday. Beds at Covid care centres and Covid health centres were lying vacant.
