Indian Embassy in Nepal celebrates Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary

Kathmandu (Nepal), Oct 02 (ANI): The world is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of the 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd. The Indian Embassy in Nepal also marked the day by unveiling statue of Bapu in Kathmandu during a colourful programme. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri along with other dignitaries and guests unveiled the statute and paid homage to Peace Icon of the world. The unveiling programme was followed by presentation of Vaishnav Songs and Bhajans by the artists of SVCC and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu, who enthralled the audience by their mesmerising performances. October 2, birthday of Indian freedom fighter and global icon is regarded as the Peace and Non-violence day by UN. The Indian Embassy on the eve of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 1 evening had organized Khadi Fashion Show where designers from India and Nepal showcased their designs using Khadi cloth.

India has made decision on purchasing S400, discussed it with US: EAM Jaishankar

Washington DC (USA), Sep 02 (ANI): New Delhi has "made its decision" on the purchase of S400 missile system from Russia and held a discussion in this regard with Washington, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday, amid the looming threat of US sanctions over the purchase. As part of his three-day agenda in Washington, Jaishankar participated in a conversation held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank. Here, the minister was quizzed on as to whether India is "willing to accept the consequences" of US actions over the purchase of the land-based missile system. To which Jaishankar replied, India has made a decision on the S400 issue and we have discussed that with the US government. "I am reasonably convinced of the power of my persuasion. It would be my hope that people understand why this particular transaction is important for us," said Minister.

World Uyghur Congress, Tibetans and Hongkongers protest in Brussels against Chinese repression

Brussels [Belgium], Oct 2 (ANI): The World Uyghur Congress on Tuesday held protests here against Beijing's repressive measures even as mainland China staged a huge military parade to celebrate 70 years of its Communist regime on Tuesday. Tibetans and Hongkongers joined the protest. Activists hold protest in London against enforced disappearances of women in Balochistan

London [UK], Oct 01 (ANI): Activists of Baloch National Movement (BNM) on Monday held protest outside 10 Downing Street, the residence of British Prime Minister, to raise the issue of enforced disappearances in Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan. The activists said that hundreds of Baloch women and children have been abducted by the Pakistan military in Balochistan. On May 14, Hani Gul Baloch, a student of medicine in Karachi, was abducted along with her fiance, Naseem Baloch. She was kept in military torture cells where she was tormented for three months. Upon her release, she was expelled by the Hamdard Medical University. "Pakistan's intelligence agencies recently adopted a new policy of abducting Baloch women and children to pressurise the Baloch political activists, who are fighting against the injustices committed by the Pakistani military establishment in Balochistan. Nepal's biggest Hindu festival 'Bada Dashain' begins

Kathmandu (Nepal), Sep 30 (ANI): 'Bada Dashain' the biggest and longest festival observed by Hindus began in Nepal on September 29. The first day of the festival started with sowing of barley, wheat, maize, paddy seeds and by offering prayers in the temples. It is celebrated by keeping earthen pot at sacred spots in houses or in temples. Woman activist exposes atrocities on minorities by Pak Army
