New Delhi, Apr 20 (ANI): Differently-abled Indian arm wrestler Shrimant Jha made the country proud on Friday by picking up a bronze medal at the Asian Armwrestling Championship, which is being held from April 16 to April 22 in Kazakhstan. The 25-year-old, resident of Naxal-hit Chhattisgarh finished behind Tajikistan's Firuz and Magolia's Munkhbold to settle for the bronze in the 80kg senior category. Following the win, Shrimant said he would continue to concentrate on his game and try to do better next time around. He further hoped that this time he gets a job from Chhattisgarh government.
New Delhi, Apr 19 (ANI): International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach on Thursday showed positive signs in regards to Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) intentions to hold the Youth Olympic Games or Olympic Games. He said that the IOC is open for discussion regarding the 2026 Youth Olympic Games and next possibility for India for hosting Olympics Games will be 2032 as the IOC has allocated the Olympic Games till 2028 to other countries. "We have allocated the Olympic games till 2028 so the next possibility to India is 2032" Reacting on the doping issue the IOC president said that he has received assurance from from Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore that India will enter into discussion with World-Anti Doping agency. The IOC President Thomas Bach on Wednesday arrived in India for a two-day visit.

Mary Kom said Olympics medal isn't everything for her if she can win then it's very good, but if she can't then it'll always remain like an unfulfilled dream. Mary Kom added that she will try her best and focus on each step. She wished all women athletes to do their best.
Hyderabad, Apr 17 (ANI): Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal on Tuesday said more than the individual medal, she would rate the team championship gold medal more special as that is something she never dreamt of. Saina added that beating PV Sindhu in the final was not easy but she kept her nerves and did well. It was very challenging to win against Singapore and Malaysia.
Mumbai, Apr 17 (ANI): After winning a gold medal in the 21st Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold medalist in women's doubles in Table Tennis Madhurika Patkar and bronze medalist in men's doubles Sanil Shetty received a grand welcome at the Mumbai Airport on Tuesday. Madhurika Patkar said, "I am really happy and excited. I felt happy that I contributed to the nation and gave something back to the sport. I also appeal to the parents to encourage their children for sports." Meanwhile, Sanil Shetty said, "We have created history in the game and I am very happy that Table Tennis is growing. The Sports Federation supported us a lot." Sanil Shetty bagged a bronze in men's doubles event at the Commonwealth Games.
Gold Coast (Australia), Apr 15 (ANI): Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore expressed his satisfaction over the performance of Indian athletes in Commonwealth Games 2018. He expressed his joy by saying that athletes made India proud and this is the beginning. The sports minister added that athletes won medals in some sports where India never won medals.

His family members as well as his fans expressed happiness over his victory. On his arrival at his hometown, he said, "I am happy to come to Karnal. New Delhi, Apr 15 (ANI): Shuttler duo Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty settled for silver after losing to England's Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge in straight games in men's doubles badminton finals in the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Sunday. Satwik and Chirag lost 13-21 and 16-21 to Elis and Langridge as England clinched gold in the badminton competition. Satwik and Chirag, although showed promise at the beginning of the match, they trailed behind Elis and Langridge in most parts of the game, that lasted for nearly 40 minutes.
Gold Coast (Australia), Apr 15 (ANI): Badminton national coach Pullela Gopichand on Sunday praised performance of every shuttler in the Commonwealth Games 2018. He also said that the performance of shuttlers shows team's strength and will also bring more medals for the country. "I think the overall the team's performance is been very good, when you look at the different events I would think in each of these events everyone played well. as a team we are good and hopefully we can get many more results in the future," said Gopichand.

"I am very happy that I could win a gold medal for my country. I want to thank my countrymen. This year we have won nine medals in boxing. We will work harder so that we can perform better in the upcoming Asian Games," she said. New Delhi, Apr 15 (ANI): Star Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth ended his run at the 21st Commonwealth Games on Sunday with a silver medal in the badminton men's singles final. The 25-year old shuttler conceded defeat against Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei. Earlier, Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal clinched gold after a 21-18, 23-21 victory in the all-Indian women's singles final against PV Sindhu. With Srikanth's feat, India continues to stand third in the points table with 65, including 26 gold, 19 silver and 20 bronze medals.

New Delhi, Apr 14 (ANI): Decorated shooter Heena Sidhu on Saturday expressed satisfaction with her performance at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2018 and said that winning medals there meant a lot to her. She also asserted that athletes need funding to get good quality coaches and physiotherapists so that they can perform well. She also said that efforts must be made to save shooting from being excluded in the next Commonwealth Games. "I am very happy with my performance. Commonwealth Games is an important event and winning a medal there means a lot to me," said Sidhu. We need funding to get good quality coaches and physiotherapists. Help from any corner be it govt or private sponsors matter a lot. Indian shooters are performing well this is a reason, we need to save shooting from being excluded from next Commonwealth Games," added Sidhu. Sidhu won a gold medal women's 25m and a silver medal at women's 10m air pistol events at the games.
New Delhi, Apr 14 (ANI): Wrestler Vinesh Phogat won gold in women's freestyle 50 kg by beating Canada's Jessica Macdonald 13-3 in her last bout. She ended at the top of the standings at the end of the Nordic (round robin) format. With this win, Vinesh became the first Indian woman to win two wrestling gold medals at the Games She had also won gold in the 48 kg category in Glasgow four years ago. Phogat and Sumit Malik won gold in women's freestyle 50 kg and men's freestyle 125 kg wrestling events respectively at CWG 2018, while Sakshi Malik and Somveer won bronze.
New Delhi, Apr 14 (ANI): Indian shooters continued to bring laurels even on the 11th day of the ongoing 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games, with Sanjeev Rajput bagging a gold medal in the men's 50 m rifle 3 positions here on Saturday. The 37-year-old shot a new Commonwealth Games record of 454.5 in the finals to clinch India's 19th gold medal at the Belmont Shooting Centre in Gold Coast. Earlier, Rajput shot 391 in kneeling, 399 in prone and 390 in standings to top the qualification stage with 1,180 points.

As she defeated England's Kristina O'Hara via unanimous decision stretching over three rounds in the women's 45-48 kg category on Saturday morning.
New Delhi, Apr 13 (ANI): Indian shooters continue their sublime run in the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games, shooter Anish Bhanwala fired a new meet record to win gold in Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol competition on Friday. He is the youngest ever Commonwealth Gold holder and has set a new record at the event. Anish scored 30 points in the finals to finish two points ahead of Australia's Sergei Evglevski.
