Asian Games 2018: Arpinder Singh strikes gold in men's triple jump

Jakarta (Indonesia), Aug 30 (ANI): Indian athlete Arpinder Singh clinched gold medal in Men's Triple Jump event in the 18th edition of the Asian Games. The 25-year-old made a brilliant mark of 16.77m in the finals. Ruslan Kurbavov of Uzbekistan won a silver medal achieving 16.62m and Chinese athlete Shuo Cao finished third with a jump of 16.56m. Arpinder Singh said, "Last time I just missed the medal. But this time our preparation was good that is why I won a gold medal. I am happy that I won a gold medal."

Equestrian team receives grand welcome by Indian Army at IGI airport

New Delhi, Aug 30 (ANI): The Equestrian team at the 18th Asian Games at Jakarta, Indonesia received a grand welcome at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by the Indian Army. Fouaad Mirza led Indian team clinched the silver medal in the Equestrian team event at the Asian Games. The team comprising Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik and Jitender Singh apart from Fouaad Mirza scored 121.30. Ashish Malik, Equestrian player said, "There were lots of challenges as many countries came. After a lot of hard work we won a silver medal for the country." Rakesh Kumar, Equestrian player, said, "There was a lot of pressure as athletes from other countries were really good. The victory is not only of the team but a lot of people who are working around it. It is a collective team effort." Mirza won another silver in the individual Equestrian event with a score of 26.40 behind Japan's Oiwa Yoshiaki who scored 22.70. Jakarta (Indonesia), Aug 30 (ANI): Swapna Barman's dreams have been fulfilled after winning gold in Women's Heptathlon in the ongoing Asian Games. Feeling elated, she said, "By winning this gold medal, I have achieved my dreams and fulfilled my coach's hopes. I was badly injured before the competition so I thought I would not play but then four years of my practice would have been wasted but I did to fulfill the hopes of my loved ones." Asian Games: Rowing team receives warm welcome at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, Aug 26 (ANI): Rowing team received a warm welcome at the Mumbai airport on late Saturday night. They were received by the Indian Army. Indian rowers, in the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games, had clinched gold and two bronze to the country's medal tally here on August 24. The Indian men's team comprising Sawarn Singh, Dattu Bhokanal, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh bagged the gold medal in the men's quadruple sculls event. The rowers clocked 6:17:13 to win the medal. Veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami retires from T20 Internationals

New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): Veteran India pacer Jhulan Goswami has decided to call it quits from Twenty-20 Internationals (T20Is). The announcement came less than three months before the Women's World T20 takes place in the West Indies. The 35-year-old represented India in 68 T20Is picking up 56 wickets, which included a five-wicket haul against Australia in Visakhapatnam in March 2012. She had made her T20I debut in August 2006 against England in Derby. Goswami thanked the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) and her teammates for the support she garnered during her stint with the T20I team and wished them luck going forward.

Asian Games 2018: Rahi Sarnobat becomes first Indian woman shooter to bag gold

Jakarta (Indonesia), Aug 22 (ANI): Shooter Rahi Sarnobat became the first Indian woman to score gold in the history of Asian Games. Rahi Sarnobat won gold in women's 25m pistol at the Asian Games 2018 on Wednesday. She shot a total of 34 in the finals against her Thai opponent Naphaswan Yangpaiboon. Yangpaiboon claimed silver and Korean shooter Kim Minjung bagged bronze medal in the event. Rahi had won her first gold medal at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune.
