Hockey Men's World Cup 2018: Team England, New Zealand arrive in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Nov 24 (ANI): Hockey Men's World Cup 2018 will kick off in Bhubaneswar from November 28. England Team and New Zealand Team arrived in Odisha's capital to participate in the championship today. 16 teams are participating in the tournament. The games will be played at Kalinga Stadium. The World Cup will conclude on December 16.

Jammu may soon host International Cricket at Maulana Azad Stadium

Jammu, Nov 23 (ANI): The city of Jammu is proud as one of its resident, Manzoor Pandav did well in the field of cricket, when he recently played in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Maulana Azad stadium situated in the heart of the city has now been upgraded to an International Cricket Stadium with International Cricket Council norms and standards. The 40 crore project is being handled by National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) under the Prime Ministers' special package. The work will be completed by March 2019 and soon an international cricket match or an IPL match can be played in the stadium. The stadium will have a well established pavilion, gymnasium, conference hall, open VIP area, media, player zones and galleries. The pitch curator of Feroz Shah Kotla ground has been roped in and the pitch will be one of the fastest in Indian to promote fast bowlers. With coming of this world class cricket facility soon more cricketers from state will represent the country.

Women's World Boxing Championships: Mary Kom ecstatic after semi-finals win

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Indian ace boxer Mary Kom knocked down North Korea's Kim Hyang-mi in the semi-finals to storm into final in 48kg category in Women's World Boxing Championships. Kom said that she is excited about her final match and she will give her best to win the championship to make India proud. "I had defeated her in final of the last Asian Championship in Vietnam, so I was a little alert. That time I had beaten her in a one-sided match. Every boxer learns something, whether we win or lose we analyse about our weaknesses and strengths, about defence and attacking", said Mary Kom.

India vs Australia: We gained confidence from 1st T20, says Shikhar Dhawan

Brisbane (Australia), Nov 21 (ANI): Team India lost the opening T20 match against Australia in Brisbane today. With rains reducing the game play to 17 overs, India lost by just 4 runs. Shikhar Dhawan scored a lightening quick 76 of just 42 balls. He said that overall batting performance of India was good. "It was a good game of cricket and both the teams played really well and we gained a lot of confidence with the match", said Dhawan during a press conference.

Hockey World Cup 2018: Preparations commence in Bhubaneswar

Wrestler Bajrang Punia ranked world number one in 65 kg category

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia was ranked world number one in the 65 kg weight category, according to the ranking chart released by United World Wrestling (UWW). Punia became first Indian to achieve this feat. Punia won five medals this season, including Common Wealth Games and Asian Games gold and a silver at the World Championships. The 24-year-old was placed atop the ranking table with 96 points in the UWW list. Cuban Alejandro Enrique Vlades Tobier is placed second with 66 points.

Ahead of India vs West Indies 2nd T20I, Lucknow cricket stadium renamed

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 06 (ANI): Ahead of the 2nd T20I cricket match to be played between India and West Indies, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday renamed the 'Ekana International Cricket Stadium' as 'Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium'. UP Governor Ram Naik has approved the government proposal to this effect. Orders were issued for the change of name by Principal Secretary (Housing) Nitin Ramesh Gokaran late on Monday. The stadium is going to host its first international cricket match today.

New Delhi, Nov 01 (ANI): Five-time world champion Mary Kom has been named as the brand ambassador of the upcoming 10th edition of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Women World Championship. China clinches Asia U-18 Girls Seven Rugby Championship

State Chess Championship held in Srinagar ahead of Nationals

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Oct 27 (ANI): All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association in collaboration with JandK State Sports Council has organised State Chess Championship at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar. The first top seven players in senior category from Kashmir province and Jammu province will be selected for the upcoming State Chess Championship 2018, in which first top eight players will be selected on 'Round Robin' basis and will represent JandK State for National 'A ' chess championship 2018 scheduled to be held at Jammu in December 2018.
