Driving license given without genuine test is the reason behind road accidents: Sunil Gavaskar

Mumbai, Oct 18 (ANI): Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar underlined the importance of genuine driving tests to decrease the number of accidents on roads. He also advised RTO (Regional Transport Office) chief to look into it. "When I got a license, I struggled to reverse the car park properly but the driving instructor said doesn't matter you drive straight and I'll give you the license," said Sunil Gavaskar. When you give a license to somebody who cannot read the traffic signs, you are actually giving AK-47 rifle in his hands. Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made this statement while speaking at an event based on road safety in Mumbai.

Kolkata, Oct 15 (ANI): Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly on October 15 arrived in Kolkata, after his selection as BCCI president. Replying to medipersons on joining politics, Ganguly said, "I met Amit Shah for the first time ever, neither did I ask a question on BCCI, whether I was going to get a post or not, nor any discussion of "you will only get this, if you agree to that" happened, there is no political development."

Kolkata, Oct 15 (ANI): Sourav Ganguly, who is all set to become the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on October 15 said, "I get an opportunity when it's a tough situation and it gives me a tremendous amount of confidence. BCCI have faith in me and in my abilities. I will work with the best I have known." Ganguly, however, will be able to serve as BCCI President only until September 2020. He has been holding posts in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the past five years where he currently serves as President. An administrator can only serve six years on the trot.

Men, Women Hockey teams arrive in Bhubaneswar ahead of Olympic qualifiers

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Oct 14 (ANI): As the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Olympic Qualifiers are inching closer, Indian hockey's men's and women's teams arrived in Bhubaneswar on October 14. The camp will begin from October 14 onwards at the Kalinga Stadium. The camp will focus on the team's preparation for the FIH Olympic Qualifiers, which are scheduled to be played on November 1 and 2. While speaking to ANI, Men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh said, "Qualifier match is important for us and as well as for Russia. We can't take them lightly. Postpaid mobile services to be restored in Kashmir valley from Oct 14: JandK Principal Secretary

Srinagar (JandK), Oct 12 (ANI): The administration in Kashmir announced to restore all post-paid mobile connections from Monday (October 14). "Mobile phone connections, to be specific, all postpaid mobile phone connections, irrespective of service provider, will resume from Monday - October 14th at noon. This will happen across the state, in all 10 districts of Kashmir," Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said at a news briefing in Srinagar. The government had imposed a communications blackout in Jammu and Kashmir before scrapping its special status under the constitution on August 5.

PM Modi, Chinese Prez Xi visits artefacts and handloom exhibition in Kovalam

Kovalam (Tamil Nadu), Oct 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping visited an exhibition on artefacts and handloom at Taj Fisherman's Cove Hotel in Tamil Nadu's Kovalam. A range of artefacts were displayed including 'Nataraja'. A variety of colourful sarees also dotted the walls at the exhibition. The exhibition also had at least two traditional sarees which have Chinese President's face imprinted on it. The aim of the exhibition was to introduce Prez X with Tamil culture. Earlier, both leader held one-on-one and delegation level talks. The leaders arrived in coastal city after holding informal talks in Mamallapuram on Oct 11.

Mithali Raj expecting 'very competitive' ODI series against South Africa
