New Delhi, May 29 (ANI): The Indian economy grew by 7.3 per cent during 2014-15 from the 4.7 per cent increase in the previous fiscal, government data showed on Friday. March quarter gross domestic product or GDP data shows that India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Manufacturing sector output, a big focus area for Prime Minister Narendra Modi , jumped sharply in the March quarter. However, agricultural output declined between January and March. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that it is now clear the economy is in a recovery mode.

New Delhi, May 25 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said the government expects increase of 14-15 percent in direct tax collection during the fiscal year due to increased economic buoyancy and improved Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth. India's economy is forecast to accelerate to 8-8.5 percent growth in the fiscal year 2015-16 started in April, up from 7.4 percent last year. The government has direct tax target of rupees 7.98 lakh crore for 2015-16. Jaitley said the government had planned to invest in infrastructure projects, irrigation projects and social security schemes for the poor to further boost the economy. Jaitley also told officials to check tax evasion, squeezed out parallel economy and not to harass honest tax payers.
Kolkata, May 23 (ANI): State Bank of India (SBI), the nation's top lender by assets, posted better-than-expected quarterly bad debt levels and said it now expected an improvement, a long-awaited sign of easing pressure that helped its shares jump over five percent. The loan improvement in the three months ended in March helped SBI, which accounts for about a quarter of Indian loans and deposits, post a 23 percent rise in net profit to 37.42 billion rupees ($589 million), above forecasts. The bank's gross bad loan ratio fell to 4.25 percent the March quarter from 4.9 percent in the previous three months.

New Delhi/ Mumbai, May 13 (ANI): The BSE Sensex and Nifty fell more than 2 percent giving up most of their gains made in the previous two sessions, as stocks across the board declined on worries that key land acquisition and tax reforms would be delayed further. Forty-eight stocks of the 50 that make up the broader Nifty fell on worries the government has agreed to review the Land Acquisition Bill and the Good and Services Tax Amendment, unnerving foreign investors about likely delays. Also, the rupee trading below the key 64 per US dollar level is raising worries that foreign portfolio outflows may create a vicious cycle between rupee and domestic shares, fund managers said. He also added that the debt crisis in Greece too could be adversely affecting the market. The Sensex fell 2.3 percent while the Nifty ended 2.4 percent lower finding resistance from their technically important 200-day moving average.
