Gujarat, HP Polls: Sensex dips after early trends pour in

Mumbai, Dec 18 (ANI): Soon after the early trends of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly polls began pouring in on Monday morning, the Sensex opened with a thud and Nifty slipped below its crucial 10,150 level. At a particular time, the benchmark indices were sharply lower- by more than 600 points. Counting of votes for 182-seat Gujarat Assembly and 68 Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh began at 8a.m. While majority of exit polls have predicted BJP's win, the Congress is hopeful of bagging votes of influential Patidar community in Gujarat. In the hill-state of Himachal, a total of 337 candidates, including 19 women, are in fray to sweep the polls.

UIDAI suspends Airtel, Airtel Bank's Aadhaar-linked e-KYC services

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has temporarily suspended telecom major Bharti Airtel and Airtel Payments Bank's 'Aadhaar linked e-KYC' services for allegedly misusing the facility. "We can confirm that we have received interim order from the UIDAI regarding temporary suspension of Aadhaar linked e-KYC services till their satisfaction on certain processes relating to Airtel Payments Bank's onboarding of customers," the company said in a statement on Saturday. "We are engaging with the authority and are hopeful of an early resolution. We are also undertaking to complete the said actions on priority and have commenced with checks of our process flows. Being compliant to all guidelines is paramount to us," the statement added. UIDAI's interim order comes after some customers alleged that the telecom company had opened their bank account in Airtel Payments Bank without their consent. Locals strip youths and blacken their faces for allegedly molesting a girl

Nalanda (Bihar), Dec 18 (ANI): Three young boys who attempted to molest a girl in broad day light were nabbed by locals in Nalanda of Bihar on Sunday. The locals dragged the boys down their motorcycle and stripped them. They even blackened their faces with ash as punishment. While the boys were being humiliated, some onlookers made a video which went viral.

Google X to set up Development Centre in Visakhapatnam

Fed raises interest rates, keeps policy outlook unchanged for 2018

Maruti Suzuki passes SBI as sixth most valuable Indian company

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Shares of Maruti have increased 73% in the last one year because of a slew of successful products in the last couple of years. These much-accredited products include the Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and the newly launched Dzire subcompact sedan. Shares of Maruti Suzuki jumped to an all-time high of 9072 per unit. This made the automaker, the sixth most valued company on the BSE, passing the State Bank of India (SBI). Maruti Suzuki currently commands over 50 per cent of the market share in the passenger vehicle segment with more than three million cars sold every year. The Indian auto giant's market capitalization on Friday stood at 2.74 trillion, ahead of SBI's 2.71 trillion. Airtel to install 2000 mobile sites to provide connectivity in North East villages

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): Bharti Airtel on Sunday signed an agreement with telecom department and Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) to facilitate providing network to 2100 uncovered villages in North Eastern states of India. The focus is to provide networks to uncovered villages and national highways in the states of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. Airtel is targeting to install 2000 mobile towers in the region in next 18 months. The towers will also enable other telecom services to provide network.

India's export of software services increased by 10.3% in 2016-17: RBI

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its recently released annual survey on "computer software and information technology enabled services (ITES) exports" has revealed that India's total export of software services increased by 10.3 percent to USD 97.1 billion. In 2015-16, India's total export of software services excluding exports through commercial presence was USD 88 billion. "Exports of computer services remained the dominant component, with private limited companies and public limited companies holding equal shares in exports during the year," the survey stated providing insights on various characteristics of India's exports of software services. For 2016-17 round of the survey, 7,506 IT companies were approached, out of which 1,362 companies (accounting for 81.2 percent of the total software exports) responded. General Electric to cut 12,000 jobs

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): American multinational conglomerate General Electric has announced axing 12,000 jobs at its global power business in an effort to shrink itself into a more focused company. Majority of these 12,000 jobs will be axed in Switzerland and Germany. GE says demand for new thermal power plants dramatically dropped and traditional power markets, including gas and coal, have softened. New Delhi, Dec 4 (ANI): Paytm Payments Bank unveiled Paytm FASTag on Monday to enable motorists pay toll taxes electronically on highways. Paytm rolled out FASTag payments after government made it compulsory for all four wheelers sold from Dec 1 to be equipped with FASTag for hassle free commuting near toll plazas. Nissan sues India over outstanding dues, seeks over $770 million

New Delhi, Dec 01 (ANI): Japanese automaker Nissan Motor has begun international arbitration against India and has sought over $770 million in connection to a dispute over state incentives. Last year, Nissan sought payment of incentives due from the Tamil Nadu Government as part of a 2008 agreement to set up a car manufacturing plant in the state. The automaker said that its repeated requests to Tamil Nadu officials were overlooked and even a plea by company's chairman, Carlos Ghosn, turned futile. Officials from several ministries assured Nissan that payment would be made. In August, Nissan gave India an ultimatum to appoint an arbitrator. Other automakers, including Ford and Hyundai Motor, have set up production hubs in the state.
